The current trend of e-liquids aimed at helping folks move away from the dreaded disposables continues, this time we get to try out the full range of NYX Juicy which include most of your favourite flavours from disposables.

The bottles are no-nonsense and are colour coded to the flavour profile, for example green is apple, red is strawberry, blue is….. you get the gist. My only niggle is the tiny writing of the actual flavour name which is really difficult to see, thankfully the colours do make it easy to pick them out without reading.

Ice, Ice Baby…

A familiar theme with these flavours is the ‘Ice’ which is a common additive in disposables, basically it is a coolada/menthol note which tones down the sweetness and gives a pleasant aftertaste, I never used to like ‘menthol’ until those pesky disposables came along, but now I prefer it when it comes down to these flavours.

Weapon of Choice

At the moment many of these ‘disposables’ type flavours are sweetened a lot and the viscosity is on the thick side, this means that they won’t suit all vape devices, it’s early days but a general rule of thumb is 0.8ohm mesh coils or pods work best, I have had very little luck with anything higher, such as 1.2ohm, as they tend to gunk up quickly so your coil or pod won’t last as long, RTAs (Rebuildable Tank Atomiser) aren’t so fussy though and I had a lot of success with plain wire over 1.0ohm.

Pure Eliquids have taken some of the guesswork out as they recommend the Elf Bar FB100 kit with 0.8ohm coils, I used this device to test the majority of the flavours and it worked a charm, unfortunately the large mouthpiece makes it feel a little odd, especially if you are moving over from disposables, but you get used to it soon enough and the coils last well.

At the moment you get a free NYX Juicy 10ml bottle free with this kit so it might be a good start for you as long as you are not expecting a like-for-like experience, the auto-draw is a bit poor due to the larger mouthpiece but you soon get used to just using the fire button.

Time to get testing, I decided to split the flavours up by colour, I used the Elf Bar FB1000 for each one to get a consistent experience.

The first bunch I tried was:

Green Apple

There were no surprises here as it tasted exactly as described, the apple was punchy and sour, not too sweet, and the ice kick made it more vapable. I’m not a fan of ‘sour’ but this one worked well.

Sour Apple Ice

This one was very similar to the previous ‘Green Apple’ but the ice kick was a bit more evident and not as sweet. I think I preferred this one as the ice element toned down the sourness.

Blue Sour Raspberry Ice

Another one with ‘sour’ but sweeter than the previous apple flavours and the raspberry was similar to a slushie in flavour, I was keen to move on from ‘sour’ at this point though.

Blue Razz Lemonade

Now we’re talking! This was one of my favourites in disposables so I was keen to try this one out and it didn’t disappoint. This was well balanced and was one I could happily use as an ADV (all day vape), not too sweet but plenty of raspberry flavour and a refreshing aftertaste.

Onto the next bunch and this lot were the ones I would usually choose when ordering.

Sweet Blueberry Ice

The description says it all as this one is just that, a sweet blueberry with a refreshing ice kick, the blueberry is just right, sweet but not overly, smooth and refreshing. It’s one of those flavours that benefits from the ice to make it suitable for an ADV.

NRG Ice

Think Red Bull or Monster regular and you get pretty much that taste, sweet and tangy but hard to distinguish any exact fruit, it is impossible to describe if you haven’t tried the actual drink but it just works as a vape flavour, smooth, tasty and ideal as an ADV.

Red Grape Ice

I enjoy ‘grape’ flavours in e-liquids but they can be a bit overly sweet, here’s where the ‘ice’ element comes in handy as it makes the strong grape flavour more palatable and tones down the sweetness resulting in a smooth but punchy vape. it reminded me of a slushie.

Kiwi Passion Guava Ice

This was my favourite so far but it's a hard one to describe. I can’t say that I’ve ever tried these fruits together in real life but damn do they work! I guess the best way to describe it is a sweet tropical/exotic fruit melody. This would usually be too sickly but again the ‘ice’ tones it all down nicely, I soon demolished the 10ml but I think it is a bit too strong to be an ADV so I would order it as a treat.

Mango Ice

Mango can be an acquired taste but it’s one of my favourite flavours for MTL vaping, but I tend to get sick of it quickly as it can be quite strong, NYX have been smart with adding a hint of Banana to it though as it is the perfect fruit to tone it down. Add the ‘ice’ and it gets even better as it blends it all together nicely and makes it smoother overall.

Strawberry Banana Ice

An odd exclusion from the range is Banana Ice which is a popular one in disposables, but you get a taste of it in this blend. I usually try my own description but in this case I really can’t put it any better than Pure Eliquids description, think sweet strawberry, creamy banana with an ice kick to make it taste like a milkshake, and you won’t be far off. It is more of a treat rather than an ADV and will be one I will be adding to my regular order. I actually think I prefer it to just banana.

Sweet Strawberry Ice

This was one of the few that didn’t float my boat as it was a bit too sweet for my liking, think strawberries dipped in sugar and that should give you an idea of how sweet it is, although the ‘ice’ element did help to tone it down a bit. The aftertaste was quite nice as a result.

Peach Ice

As stated ‘a popular choice’ and peach has been one of my go-to flavours in nic salts, but this is the first time I’ve tried an iced version and it works better in my opinion. It’s usually one I have as a treat, but the menthol element makes it far more suitable as an ADV.

Watermelon Ice

I’m not quite sure what to make of this one, it all seemed a bit too much as it was very strong and very sweet. Watermelon is usually a subtle tasting fruit but not on this occasion, I guess it’s closer to a chewy sweet than the actual fruit, if that makes sense, but if you like it strong and sweet, then you might like this one. As with the other flavours in the range, the ice element makes it smoother overall.

Conclusion

The NYX Juicy range was a success overall. I’ve been waiting a long time for a range of e-liquids to give the same experience as disposables, love 'em or hate 'em, but there’s no getting away from the flavour quality you get from disposables, and now we are getting a much better and more sustainable option by having the e-liquid in 10ml bottles for use in ‘proper’ vape equipment. I will be using them in rebuildables (RTAs and RDAs), but they work great in 0.8ohm stock mesh coils or pods.
