Intro to the Smok TFV4 Mini

SMOK have enjoyed huge success recently with the release of the SMOK TFV4 and they have quickly followed this up with the release of the SMOK TFV4 Mini- a 22mm width clearomiser as opposed to the original TFV4's 24.5mm width. Reducing the width down to 22mm may well capture those who didn't like the idea of the full size version overhanging their mods.

It sports a slightly smaller capacity of 3.5ml, however despite its smaller stature all the great features of the SMOK TFV4 are present and correct. There's huge adjustable airflow on the tank and drip tip base, a swivel cap top filling system, a vast amount of interchangeable coil heads (including rebuildable decks), and the supplied drip tip now sports a double layered structure with a stainless steel outer and a Pyrex inner, allowing for an even cooler vape at high power. The TFV4 Mini shapes up to be a real winner.

There's an absolutely vast amount of coil heads available for the SMOK TFV4 Mini, including a few different rebuildable deck options, will the versatility of this tank set it apart from the competition?

What's in the box?

Provided you purchase the SMOK TFV4 Mini full kit, a hugely comprehensive package is provided by SMOK, in fact probably the most comprehensive package available for any tank to date. Packed into the kit is-

Pure Eliquids
  • 1x TFV4 mini tank
  • 1x TF-CLP2 Dual Clapton Coil Core (0.35Ω)
  • 1x TF-S6 Sextuplet Coil Core (0.4Ω)
  • 1x TF-RCA Rebuildable Clapton Coil Core
  • 1x Replacement Glass Tube
  • 1x Black Seal Gasket A
  • 1x Black Seal Gasket B
  • 2x Replacement Seal Gaskets for Top Cap
  • 1x Small Airflow Tip
  • 1x Black Vape Band
  • 1x White Vape Band
  • 2x Replacement O-rings for Drip Tip

  • 1x Replacement Wire

That's a pretty astonishing amount of kit, especially when you consider this is available in the £25 region! There will also be a basic kit available that contains just the tank, a vape band and instruction manual.

Looks and Capacity

It's a SMOK TFV4 on a diet. It's slimmed down from 24.5mm to 22mm and the capacity is reduced slightly from 5ml to 3.5ml. The only other differences are that the Stainless Steel drip tip now sports a Pyrex glass inner to provide a little extra help keeping it cool and the Pyrex glass tank section has been reinforced. Plus it says TFV4 Mini in a slightly smaller font above the airflow slots rather than just TFV4!

Manufactured from Stainless Steel and Pyrex Glass, with an option for a Stainless Steel or Black finish, you can disassemble the SMOK TFV4 Mini for cleaning. The same huge quad airflow is present, along with drip tip airflow at the base of the drip tip. It's top filled via the same great swivel top cap method, which locks into place once you have done and makes filling a breeze. It also features a fixed 510 connector at the base of the tank.

Looks wise, I think it's an outstanding looking tank and feels very well made. It makes for an excellent pairing with the SMOK XCUBE II or the new Koopor Plus.

Airflow

You have four massive, adjustable cyclops airflow slots at the base of the SMOK TFV4 Mini, this tank is designed to provide some big, big airflow. Wide open, there aren't many tanks that stand up to this one- it's a cloud chasers dream! You can finely adjust the airflow with the smooth AFC ring to suit your vaping style.

The Electronic Cigarette Company

Airflow is also present on the drip tip base as well- again this can be finely adjusted just like the main airflow found at the bottom of the tank. Opening this right up will help keep your vape cool, so if warm vapes aren't for you then you will want to keep this open.

TFV4 Coil Heads

Now there are such a huge range of coil heads available for the SMOK TFV4 and TFV4 mini that I felt a whole section of this review needs to be devoted to them!

The huge amount of options here are what sets the TFV4 Mini apart from the competition- I'm not aware of any other tank out there that offers this many different coil head options. Obviously you have the included TF CLP-2 Dual Clapton Coil Heads and the TF-S6 Sextuplet coil heads as well as the TF-RCA rebuildable Clapton core, other coil options available are:

  • TF-Q4 0.15ohm quad coil, rated up to 140w
  • TF-T3 0.2ohm tri coil, rated up to 130w
  • TF-T2 Standard Core- 1.5ohm Dual Coil rated for use at 20-45w
  • TF-T2 Air Core- 1.5ohm Dual Coil rated for use at 20-45w
  • TF-N2 Standard Core- Dual Coil 0.12ohm Ni200 coil for Temperature Control use, for use at 420-600F
  • TF-N2 Air Core- Dual Coil 0.12ohm Ni200 with 2 extra air holes, for use at 420-600F
  • TF-Ti Titanium Coil- Ti coil for use in TC at 450-600F
  • TF-R1- single coil RBA head
  • TF-R2- dual coil RBA head

SMOK have even more coil heads planned for the future, that's already an amazing wealth of options available!

Performance

The performance of the SMOK TFV4 Mini can really be dictated by which coil head that you use in it, as there are so many different options available at your disposal. You want great flavour? There are coil heads for that. Huge clouds? There are coil heads for that too. Wanna rebuild your own coils? Yeah there are RBA decks available for that- no less than three different RBA deck options were available as I wrote this review.

What I will do is base the performance of the SMOK TFV4 Mini on the coils that come supplied with the SMOK TFV4 Mini Kit:

TF-CLP2 Dual Clapton Coil core - this coil is the one that comes preinstalled with the SMOK TFV4 Mini, and the many are likely to use first. It's a dual vertical Clapton coil head that comes in at 0.35ohm and recommended for use at 30-90w, wicked with organic Japanese Cotton. Those that know me know that I'm not the biggest fan of the Clapton coil, but this coil head has changed my perception totally. The flavour I got from this coil head was absolutely outstanding, real crisp deep flavour and I've found the best range for getting the best flavour results from this coil to be 50-60w. It can't half chuck the clouds as well, with some absolutely huge vapour production!

Also coming in the package is the TF-S6 sextuplet coil, coming in at 0.4ohm and recommended for use at 30-100w. This contains a total of 6 coils inside the coil head, in the form of a triple dual vertical coil configuration, with each dual vertical coil chambered separately from the other. The result is again outstanding flavour from this coil and absolutely massive cloud production, the biggest clouds coming at 80-100w. The TFV4 Mini does get a little hot at this range, and it absolutely annihilates your juice too!

Premier Ecigs

Finally, SMOK have included an RBA deck with the package, in the form of the TF-RCA rebuildable Clapton head. This comes with a pre installed Clapton coil- all you need to do is wick it and get going. It has two posts, with two screws on either side, a nice amount of room to build, and it's easy to rebuild and get going with straight away- again the flavour here is outstanding. You don't need to specifically use a Clapton coil with this RBA deck- you can install any coil you can fit inside there!

Coil lifespan has been excellent, both the TF-S6 and TF-CLP2 are still going strong over two weeks into using them. One thing to note is that the SMOK TFV4 Mini is quite possibly the thirstiest tank I have ever encountered, very capable of draining a full tank of juice in under 20 minutes of heavy use!

Conclusion

There's no other tank as versatile as the SMOK TFV4 mini and it's bigger brother, the TFV4. That's down to the huge amount of coil heads available, meaning that SMOK truly cover the vast consumer base and can offer something that will suit any style of vaper. Performance from this is truly outstanding, the price is great at £25 and under, it can appeal to anyone and the build quality is excellent, it ticks all the boxes! If your a cloud chaser, then the image above says it all- and that is at a 'mere' 50w! This tank is capable of going far above that.

The SMOK TFV4 Mini truly stands on its own in a tough and crowded marketplace, and for that reason it's the clearomiser I currently place as the best one available- purely down to its amazing performance, versatility and incredibly cheap price point. This is a tank I'd recommend to anyone, you won't be disappointed at all with it, and this gets my vote as the top sub ohm clearomiser of 2015, dethroning the outstanding Uwell Crown and Freemax Starre Pro!

We have been given four of these little beauties to give away - thanks to the team at SMOK!  We will give two away here and two more on a forum giveaway where they have been paired up with a Koopor Plus, you need to be a forum member with 20 posts or more to enter that one.  To enter the competition go here.
