NNA Calls For Support

The New Nicotine Alliance is asking for support from vapers for its advocacy work

The New Nicotine Alliance is asking for support from vapers for its advocacy work. The charity was founded in 2014. The founders, volunteer trustees and friends of the NNA have, individually and through their links with leading smoking and tobacco researchers and policy analysts, contributed to improving individual, organisational, and public understanding of Tobacco Harm Reduction (THR).

The NNA says: “THR is a term used by the UK Department of Health and Social Care, the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities and the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (amongst others) to describe ways of reducing harm from cigarette smoking for those who choose to quit with reduced risk nicotine products.

“Recently we've seen incorrect and negative reports about THR products (like vapes) hitting the headlines. We take advocacy seriously; we believe it's vital that people are given the facts and any incorrect information is challenged. Tobacco Harm Reduction is at the forefront of everything we do as a charity.

“Part of the work of the NNA is to push for an effective regulatory environment for nicotine delivery devices. An environment which protects the public but also supports the availability of reduced risk products for adults. In order to do this, from time to time, we engage with policy makers and regulatory bodies and comment on legislative and policy issues. However, we are non-political, and no activities are to the benefit of or in support of any political party.

NNA’s Sarah Jakes presents the keynote speech to the E-cigarette Summit

“The NNA is completely independent of commercial interests in relevant industries (e-cigarettes, tobacco, pharmaceutical companies, etc.). It operates on a not-for-profit basis and is free from commercial bias. Our policies and public statements are evidence-based, with a clear focus on the health of consumers and the wider public.

“The NNA is one of the oldest THR advocacy groups in the world. We are well respected and active both nationally and internationally. We punch above our weight despite operating on a shoestring budget. Our trustees are unpaid and advocate on a voluntary basis, but we have running costs which grow larger each year.

“We welcome donations from individuals who believe in THR and the important work we do; your donation will help to keep the New Nicotine Alliance viable. Please note that we are unable to take donations from industry.

“When you donate your name will be displayed by default, but you need not give your name to donate. We respect your privacy so you are free to choose the ‘Don't display name publicly on the campaign’ option underneath the donation amount and name fields. Click ‘Donate Now’ to complete your donation.

“Any donation, large or small, goes toward supporting the important work we do.”
