The organisers of the Global Forum for Nicotine (GFN) wish vapers a happy new year and are inviting you to come to #GFN23. The event will be of interest to anyone interested in vape related research or advocacy. The 10th edition of the Global Forum on Nicotine takes place at the Marriott Hotel, Warsaw, from Wednesday 21st to Saturday 24th June 2023, and registration is now open.

The organisers say: “GFN remains the only conference devoted to tobacco harm reduction - and much has changed in safer nicotine use, technology and regulation since the first GFN in 2014. Watch the latest edition of GFN News to hear the event’s founders, Professor Gerry Stimson and Paddy Costall, reflect on what led them to establish the conference - and what lies ahead for #GFN23 and beyond.

“This June, over four days together, we will revisit the past decade, assess the current state of play, and discuss the challenges and many opportunities ahead. Our 10th edition programme is themed ‘Tobacco harm reduction: the next decade’.”

#GFN23 runs over four days, and this year promises to be bigger and better – but this year it promises to be at “inflation-beating prices”.

The agenda currently runs as follows:

  • Wednesday 21st June - Practical workshops and meetings, with a plenary to close
  • Thursday 22nd June - Practical workshops and meetings, finishing with the Michael Russell Oration, to be given this year by consumer advocate and scientific expert, Dr Roberto Sussman, and followed by “the fabulous conference party” in the Sphinx restaurant
  • Friday 23rd June – The traditional GFN programming, with keynote speeches from thought leaders, expert panel discussions and unmissable plenary debates
  • Saturday 24th June - The traditional GFN programming, with keynote speeches from thought leaders, expert panel discussions and unmissable plenary debates

Organisers say: “Keep an eye on the online programme and follow GFN on Twitter, Facebook, TikTok and GFN•TV for programme updates. All conference sessions are open to those joining us in Warsaw. Not everyone can be there in person, of course, so this year we will continue to stream a selection of sessions, free of charge, to registered #GFN23 participants.”

Main topics for #GFN23:

  • Are we climbing or dismantling the wall? Overcoming adversity, getting the message heard
  • Who are the legitimate stakeholders in THR?
  • The politics of scientific publishing
  • Equality of access to THR – barriers and solutions
  • 10 years of science in THR
  • THR science and regulation – morality and reality
  • Nicotine – pleasure, therapy and everything in between
  • THR the next decade – challenges and opportunities

We are thrilled to be increasing the inclusivity of GFN by offering English to Spanish translation for the streamed sessions again. A further innovation for 2023 will see two panel discussions in Spanish, translated into English, on 21st June.  We are considering adding other languages - watch our channels for announcements.

“The fabulous GFN Fives are back - so get planning!  The submissions window will open soon and closes on 2nd May. Get inspiration from the GFN Fives from GFN22 and GFN21; showcasing the diversity of approaches, views, and experiences of tobacco harm reduction, your GFN Fives are a wonderful reflection of this growing community.”

As usual, the organisers want to help interested vapers who aren’t funded by tobacco harm reduction organisations to attend. Anyone who would like to apply for assistance to go towards the costs of attending can email [email protected].
