INNCO, the International Network of Nicotine Consumer Organisations, has announced that Ricardo Polosa has agreed to become the organisation’s new Scientific Advisor. It says, “We are grateful for this valuable addition to our work as a global voice for consumer needs, with true scientific expertise”.

The press release reads: “For those who are unaware, Professor Riccardo Polosa, MD, PhD, is the Medical Director of the Institute for Internal Medicine and Clinical Immunology and Scientific Director of the Centre of Excellence for the Acceleration of Harm Reduction of the University of Catania in Italy."

“He is also in charge of the University's Centre for Tobacco Research and Honorary Professor of Medicine at Southampton University. An internationally recognised leader in the field of respiratory medicine, he is author of more than 350 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters about respiratory medicine, clinical immunology, and nicotine-related research. Professor Polosa and his research team have lead several clinical trials on e- cigarettes. Also, Dr. Polosa is also involved in the following pro bono activities: Scientific Advisor to Lega Italiana Anti Fumo (Italian Anti Smoking League) and to The Consumer Advocates for Smoke-free Alternatives; Chair of the European Technical Committee for standardization on ‘Requirements and test methods for emissions of electronic cigarettes’.”

Professor Polosa has presented at the Global Forum for Nicotine three times and will also be the scientific speaker at the open afternoon session in Warsaw this summer. The organisation goes on to state: “We are grateful for his support as well as his commitment to providing continued guidance and input as we move forward developing INNCO into the resource for global advocacy for alternative nicotine consumers and those supporting our mission of Tobacco Harm Reduction through education and advocacy.”

INNCO was formed in 2016 and is the collective voice for twenty-seven of leading nicotine consumer organisations across twenty-five countries. The organisations all agree on a belief that there are safer ways to enjoy nicotine and adults should be able to indulge an informed choice to do so.

While there are many organisations speaking out for businesses, INNCO aims to represent the views of consumers and argues for effective and proportionate regulation of safer nicotine products and their use.
