A Billion Lives

The movie about vaping is here – where can you see it or arrange a screening.

During the coverage of the red carpet launch in Hollywood, Aaron was asked about possibly screening the film on Netflix: “I totally get it. We’re going to see how the screenings go and then look at this.” The launch was attended by, among others, Julia Roberts’ brother, the bailiff from Judge Judy, two NBA stars and Michael Jackson’s brother Tito.

Asked about the passion that drove him to make this film, Biebert said: “The biggest thing I’m getting sick of is all the lies and propaganda. Everywhere I look, whether it’s our food or our medical system, I’m not really sure what the truth is anymore – because of the advertising, because of the paid propaganda spokespeople. Some of these doctors are getting kickbacks for chemotherapy; people are getting chemo when they don’t need it. That stuff makes me mad.”

“A billion people are going to die from smoking. A billion! That’s what the World Health Organisation says. That’s like the population of Europe and the US put together. So I said to myself ‘there must be a movie about this, right?’ I hear some of my friends are quitting smoking using vapour products and I see these lies and propaganda. They’re saying this stuff is just as bad as smoking – that’s ridiculous! It’s shocking!”

“The FDA’s going to ban this stuff in the US, 99% of the products, and a billion people are going to die? I’m not having it.”

The review in Hollywood Reporter is symptomatic of the battle vaping faces. Having lambasted David Goerlitz’ appearance, it writes: “The film's other interviewees similarly fail to inspire much trust.”

To support this statement the journal references someone known to us all: “We may be very interested to hear that, when used outside of traditional cigarettes, nicotine ‘doesn't seem to be so addictive.’ But is Louise Ross, identified as a representative of something called the ‘Stop Smoking Service,’ an authority on this matter?” Few have more expertise in the area of efficacy than Louise Ross and it’s shameful the Hollywood Reporter failed to research her background.

At least the review bought into the film in their final statement: “news that e-cigs are completely banned in some countries where conventional cigarettes are readily available is enough to make anyone suspect a conspiracy.”

UK screenings are taking place at the following locations:
