IJOY Shogun Kit
Joy to the world…
I have been keeping up to date with the iJOY product lines and I have been impressed. The Shogun has gained attention from the likes of the VooPoo fanbase and it is highly comparable. So let’s take a look…
Out of the Box
The mod comes in of an variety of different colours, 6 in total, and more may be added in the future. The colours so far are black outer with ghostfire, hellfire, spectre green, galactic hurricane, splendor and aurora blue. It retails at $89 USD and £65 GBP. So a fairly priced bit of kit, but is it worth the money?
The device runs on two 18650s. It's dimensions are 88x55x28mm so it will take a decent size tank with the central location of the 510 pin.
The mod can be set from 5-180w and supports temperature control for those who enjoy this type of vaping experience. The chipset in this little beast is the UNIV Chip which is an all-round great performer.
The tank included is the Katana SubOhm, which was first introduced on the Katana Pen device. It is a good tank, big but not excessively so at 57.7x28.5mm with a standard 5.5ml capacity. For the UK market they have a TPD compliant one too. It comes with the TPD glass, two coils, a standard KM1 Mesh Coil and a DM-M2 coil.
The kit includes a USB charger. The accessories can be found at the bottom of the box and include a warranty card as well as guides on how to use both the tank and mod.
The Build
The Shogun Univ is a lovely size. It feels great in the hand and is very comfortable. The quality of the build is outstanding, and there are no signs of any battery rattle. The finish is a painted metal which is awesome and I can find no faults in the quality here. I just hope it will last over time. It is a nice weighty mod and feels very good indeed.
The screen is clear and bright, and it is a good size too. On the screen, it displays the battery life for each cell as well as the power mode you are in. The power is in 180w max where I have used it on an RDA and other tanks work pretty well but you can tell a difference in output power on battery cells with an RDA, dual or single.
I would recommend using up to 28mm tanks and up to 25mm RDAs, I did and it looked awesome! The 510 pin is slightly raised where it is centred so it can manage a maximum of 28mm tanks. This is a really nice detail compared to other models out there.
The battery life is pretty good on the dual batteries. The output is also consistent with the ultra-fast firing of the UNIV chip. The power lasted right down to the last bit of the battery bar and it worked well.
The fire button is very clicky and really is very responsive. All the buttons feel good and seem to be hard wearing so I expect them to last a long time.
Some of the other features included are as follows:
- Firmware Upgradeable
- Low/High Resistance Protection
- Battery Reverse Protection
- Short Circuit Protection
- PCB Temp Overheat Protection
- Low Power Alert
- Switch Timeout Protection
Pros
- Great in the hand
- Great build
- Fast firing
- Clear, basic display and menu
- Awesome battery life
- Beautiful design
- Solid build
Cons
- None at all…
Conclusion
Now it is easy to compare this one with the likes of the VooPoo Drag and I must say that in my opinion this is a solid all-round mod at a better price point. The way it has been designed to fit into the hand is well thought out. The Resin panels are solid and thick at 3mm, which is a bonus, and I know it’s going to be much more harder wearing.
The quality of this mod is exceptional, and I am sure they will make a big impression in the world of vaping with the variety of designs and their ideas. I’m sure the Shogun JR is going to be just as good and should be a hit when it launches.
The question is would I buy it? 100% yes! I’ve tried this mod with the provided tank as well as other RDAs which all seem to perform really well in any situation. The design is very much to my taste and I must say that if you’re after the new mod, this is an ideal…go on…get it…
