In addition the Serpent SMM also has a threaded top cap fill system and a two post build deck with two slotted terminal per post. So let’s have a good look at the Serpent SMM RTA and see what it has to offer!

Wotofo Serpent SMM RTA styling and build quality

This is a really nicely streamlined RTA that despite its 24mm diameter is still very compact so it will be absolutely ideal for anyone who prefers a low profile atomizer. Constructed from 316 Stainless Steel the Serpent SMM is aesthetically pleasing and as you would expect from Wotofo it features good quality machining. There were no apparent burrs or defects and all of the pieces fitted together well.

The Serpent SMM is intended for single coil use and has a well laid out deck for easy building. In a move that is somewhat reminiscent of the Digiflavor Fuji since the main chamber has a cowl like design, which allows the juice to flow under and directly to the wicks; so there is absolutely no need for any form of juice control. There are two logos on the main chamber but they are neatly done and fairly discrete.

Included with the tank is a wide bore Ultem drip tip which serves to minimise the amount of heat which reaches your lips when vaping. The drip tip feels comfortable, is wobble free and can be easily swapped out for one of your own since it uses a standard 510 fitting.

Regarding capacity Wotofo claim this tank holds 4ml of juice and technically that’s true if you had no actual wicking in there. Depending on how much wick you use the capacity is more like 3.5-3.75ml.

The Serpent SMM is easy to fill due to a convenient screw top system and there is plenty of room for your juice bottle nozzles. What is a little odd is the amount of replacement glass you get in the box since typically you might get one extra tube but Wotofo include an additional two. I am unsure why exactly this is the case but I suspect the glass might be prone to stress cracking if you were to screw down the top cap too tightly. I personally had no issues with the glass but it does appear a little on the thin side so it’s good that you get more than one replacement.

Airflow

The airflow consists of two fully adjustable Cyclops style horizontal slots. Fully opened up the draw is suited to users who prefer a direct lung inhale style of vaping. As you close down the airflow it becomes progressively more restrictive. You can even vape it mouth to lung but depending on your tastes you may need a narrower diameter drip tip.

Ease of use

This atomizer is very easy to build and you shouldn’t have any problems. The screws work well and hold the wire securely. In my opinion this is a very accessible RTA for a rebuildable newcomer to get to grips with since it only requires a single coil. Wicking is also simple but you will need a sufficient amount of cotton in there to prevent leaks and as I said earlier this does somewhat limit the capacity of the tank.

How does it vape?

In many ways the Serpent SMM RTA vapes a lot like the Serpent Mini. Flavour was excellent and I found myself refilling the tank often. Unlike the Serpent RDTA which had limited airflow the Serpent SMM has a great range available and this means it stays cooler at higher Wattage. Vapour production is also impressive for such a compact RTA but the downside of more airflow does mean that the juice tends to drain faster.

Nevertheless it is perfectly acceptable and as a chain vaper like myself I never felt I was suffering with the limitations of a TPD 2ml tank. When you factor in the quick and easy refilling the capacity isn’t really a problem at all.

What is nice about this tank is that it works well no matter how you choose to build it and you don’t have to immediately stick a Clapton coil in there to get a great vape. In fact I was perfectly satisfied with my 26 gauge 0.8ohm build and if you’re a mouth to lung vaper a higher Resistance coil is likely to work just as well with the advantage that the juice will drain slower. Personally I could not fault the vape I got from this tank!

There were no real issues with leaking either but after eight tanks worth of juice the cotton did start to break down and there was some slight seepage from the airflow but that is often the case with a lot of RTA’s.

Conclusion

I think this is a solid offering from Wotofo. It takes some of the things I liked from both the Serpent Mini and the Serpent RDTA but also corrects some of their shortcomings too.

The Serpent SMM is well made, easy to build and offers a great vape with excellent flavour and cloud production. Considering the relatively low asking price this is well worth checking out!

Many thanks to Gearbest who kindly sent this product to Planet of the Vapes for us to review.
