Firstly, I would like to thank Sue @Healthcabin for providing me with the opportunity to review this item.

Secondly, for my obligatory disclaimer… As I’ve just mentioned the hardware was supplied to me free of charge for review purposes. I have no affiliation to Healthcabin or Vaporesso. I do not receive payment for my reviews and what follows are my own opinions based on my own experience.

Introduction to Vaporesso’s SWAG PX80 Kit

“SWAG”

Apparently the word "swagger" was introduced by Scandinavians as early as the 1530’s. Shakespeare referred to “swaggering” in A Midsummer Night's Dream in the 1590’s. Nowadays there are several meanings to the word “Swag”, be it an acronym used in the forces Scientifically Wild-Ass Guess or at a road show Stuff We All Get, reference to a type of curtain, flower arrangement, Stolen goods, Personal Style or even Treasure.

By the looks of this kit, I think I’m going to go with the last two, because to me “Style” and “Treasure” fit nicely to describe this Mod.

The SWAG PX80 is the latest in Vaporesso’s Swag range, it boasts a max output of 80W that is claimed to provide consistent flavour through the GTX coil range using the adopted pod, apparently “bringing the end to mess-free coil replacing”, I’m sure they actually mean, introducing a mess-free coil replacing method, therefore bringing an end to messy coil replacing, but you get the gist of it. Oh and also “with the capability of smooth adjustable airflow.”

Chip Set

The SWAG PX80 is fitted with the Axon Chip. Vaporesso states it has “insta-fire” of 0.001s and incorporates the following safety Features.

· No Load Protection
· PCVA Overheat Protection
· Auto-Shut off Protection

Pod

The Pod is a bottom fill with a rubber bung. The coils can be replaced with a full Pod, apparently leak free, by rotating the drip tip anti-clockwise to the unlock position and then pressing the drip tip in. The coil can then be removed and replaced. Once replaced the drip tip needs to be rotated clockwise to the locked position. Vaporesso state that the Pod/Coil System has “Quad Leakage Protection” this is achieved with 3 rubber seals, 2 at the bottom of the coil and 1 at the top where the coil meats the drip tip part of the Pod. The final (4th Level) of protection is via an E-liquid Self-circulating System that resides at the bottom of the Pod between the bottom 2 seals.

GTX Coils

The GTX range of coils provide options covering direct to lung (DTL), restricted direct to lung (RDTL and Mouth to Lung (MTL) vaping preferences with “even more cloud and immense flavour production”. The wicking material within each option consists of Flax Cotton and a Non-woven fabric, claimed to provide a smooth draw with optimal flavour that lasts longer.

GTX 0.15Ω Mesh Coil DTL (60-75 Watts) Best @ 70 Watts
GTX 0.2Ω Mesh Coil DTL (45~60 Watts) Best @ 55 Watts
GTX 0.3Ω Mesh Coil DTL (32~45 Watts) Best @ 40 Watts

Initial thoughts

Yes it’s another box mod with a pod, a box pod mod, pod box mod, whatever you want to call it, we’ve certainly been here before. It is possible to purchase the SWAG PX80 without the Pod, instead you’ll receive the same Mod but with a 510 Adapter to enable the fitment of your favourite tank. The 510 Adapter is starting to appear for purchase separately in some places too.

To me the thing that stands out the most with this Mod is the way it actually doesn’t stand out. Its compact, sleek, stylish, the function buttons are discrete and the screen is cleverly hidden beneath the carbon cover. I genuinely think this is an elegant looking bit of kit that is a cut above with regards to the class rankings.

Display & Controls

The 0.96” TFT display is hidden in the carbon panel of the Mod and is only visible once the device is turned on.

The Power/Fire button is located on the side of the Mod, directly below the Pod with the “+” and “-“ buttons and Type-C charger connection located below the fire button. All the buttons provide a responsive, quality feel and decisive operation.

Power On/Off – Operate the Power/Fire button 5 time in quick succession.

Lock On/Off – Operate the Power/Fire button 3 time in quick succession.

Menu Settings – Press “+” and “-“ together, then scroll through the menu using the “+” or “-“ button.

Menu

SVW – Smart Variable Wattage mode limits the Mod to the power range of the fitted coil.
VW – Variable Wattage mode with full range of power 5-80W regardless of fitted coil limits.
VV – Variable Voltage mode with full range of voltage.
PUFF – past 7 days of vaping Information.
DEFAULT – Selecting this function restores to factory settings
THEME – Select Menu Colour
EXIT – Returns back to main user interface.

Air Flow Control

Air Flow through the coil is controlled by rotating the Pod.

My Experience

This kit is a stunner in the looks department the detailing is refined, the padded leather insert works well with the styling and feels good in the hand. The embedded hidden screen adds to its class with a smooth fade in, fade out transition from “now you see me” to “now you don’t”.

But does it vape as well as it looks?

I thought I’d start off with the 0.3ohm coil, juiced it up and waited in anticipation for half an hour to let it soak. Started off at the recommended minimum “Best” of 32w with the airflow wide open. Carried on for 10 or so hits and then started to edge the wattage up bit by bit to the maximum “Best” of 45w, then down again, then up again. I was a bit perplexed to tell the truth. Going up and down the range did affect the amount of vapour produced but had no significant change to flavour. It was good, but I’ve had better. I played around with this coil for the best part of 2 days and did eventually find a sweet spot and surprisingly it was a fair bit below the suggested “Best” range. For me personally, with the flavour I was vaping it seemed to perform it’s best at 26w and with the airflow closed down by around 50%. I continued to vape on the 0.3ohm coil for another couple of days and it remained consistent throughout, but after 4 days into my review it was time to see how the 0.2ohm coil performs.

Again the 0.2ohm coil behaved in a similar way, but this time found my sweet spot at 35w, and again, with the airflow half closed, 10w below the suggested “Best”. Flavour seemed a little better than the previous coil, but again, I’ve had better.

During this review I’ve accidently nudged this kit over god knows how many times. Not a problem, the Pod and Mod have both withstood each and every topple. My concerns would be with using this Mod for other tanks using the 510 adapter, especially glass tanks. The Mods footprint is relatively small, yes, this is a small kit anyway, but due to the Mods design with nicely curved edges the part of the mod that’s in contact with the surface it sits on is reduced even further, 12.5mm x 39mm making it very easy to topple. Before reviewing I would have purchased the 510 for it, but now, I’m not so sure.

As mentioned previously, I’m finding these coils produce better flavour at lower wattages than suggested with a restricted airflow. I would hope that running the coils at a lower power will increase the life of the coil, but only time will tell, at the point of submitting this review (9 days later) both coils are still working as they did when I first fitted them.

I’m interested to try the other coils available in the GTX range and probably will when I can get round to it.

I’ve not experienced any leaking from the coils, the connection between Pod and Mod has remained bone dry throughout. There has been some condensation round the sides of the Pod where the airflow is but where I’m permanently running it with the airflow half closed it’s to be expected.

20210430_132226.jpg

A minor issue, that is inherent of a Mod this size but relatively easy to avoid, is the position of the airflow control. I don’t have the nimblest of fingers but wouldn’t go as far to say they’re like tree trunks. If the Mod is held in such a way where the fire button is triggered with the index finger it’s easy to restrict the airflow on both sides between you index finger and thumb. If this is how you prefer to fire the Mod, making sure it’s held higher up in your hand resolves the issue, just takes a bit of getting used to.

For the benefit of this review, but not generally recommended, I did charge the battery each time via the USB-C connection without any issues, 2 Amp charging on a single 18650 is quick as you would expect and the “time till Full” indication is a handy benefit.

Final Thoughts

Pro’s

Compact / Sleek / Stylish
Fast charging with time till full indication
Leak-free
Long lasting coils
Large range of coil options including RBA (Not tried RBA yet)

Con’s

Easily knocked over, would cause issues with other tanks connected via 510 adapter
510 Adapter not included in kit (or is this a pro considering above)
Display not easy to read in sunlight

Rankings

Build Quality – 10/10
Usability – 7/10
Performance – 7/10
Flavour (GTX 0.3ohm) – 5/10 (GTX 0.2ohm) 6/10
Clouds – 7/10
Value for money – 8/10

Overall – 7.1/10

Vape Style – MTL/RDTL/DTL (MTL with other GTX Coils in Range)

Conclusion

I’m impressed with the build quality and styling of this kit, it feels great in the hand and would love to see other Mods in the Vaporesso range make use of that hidden display. As I’m primarily a flavour chaser, I will delve further into the GTX coil range to see if there is any improvement to be had.

Thanks again to Sue @Healthcabin for sending this kit to me for review. In return, it’s only right that I remind you that this item is available from Healthcabin at £22.27 ($29.99) but to view their best price of £17.75 ($23.90) you need to sign up and log in.

Great review @Squidgy . I bought the mod with the 510 adapter from Healthcabin. The magnets on the adapter are very strong and I've no issues with tanks falling off. I agree with you about the small footprint of the mod though and like you say it does topple easily. Shame about that as it is great apart from that.
