After joining my inbox was spammed with email alert to threads I previously commented in. I unsubscribed to these and changed set my preferences to not subscribe to 'Automatically watch threads that you create or when you reply'.
It would be great to have an option to set 'Automatically watch threads that you create' that would exclude threads I reply to.

Welcome and contest threads get too many replies.

I use the watched threads button but never have it set to email alert, just the little notification on the forum.

Same as Miss Pepper, just disable email notifications when you watch the thread.

I did this manually. I have it set on other forums I use to automatically sub to threads I create, either without email notifications or with it set to one per day.
