Hi, I have bought a Target Mini. I'm a bit lost between the differents output modes: VM/VT(Ni, SS,Ti)/TCR(M1,M2) Which one should I use? What are the differences?

Thank you very much in advance.

These are all different types of coils mate a more experienced ape will be along shortly to tell you the difference em as I haven't dived into this sort of stuff yet

Hi @Thom, and welcome [emoji4]

I'm half guessing here, but I think the modes will be

VM = variable power (probably watts (W), possibly volts (V)): use with kanthal (normal) coils
VT = variable temperature: use with nickel (Ni), stainless steel 316L (SS) or Ti (titanium) coils
and TCR M1 & M2 = temperature coefficient memories: you input the correct value for the coil you're using, which will vary with the wire the coil is made from (handy if you're using stainless steel 304 or nichrome, for example, or if the mods VT settings seem a bit off). You can find the values on Steam Engine, or Google TCR.

As you can hopefully see, what mode you use will depend on what coil is in the atomiser you're using, but if it's a normal kanthal A1 coil, VM is where you want to be...

Hope that helps!

Hey and welcome to POTV bud :). Any questions you need answering don't be afraid to ask, no matter how silly you might think the question is. Vaping is a learning curve even for experienced vapers like me. I still have a hell of a lot to learn and am constantly humbled by the helpful and friendly Apes on POTV :). Initially it can seem a little overwhelming, especially choices, but it gets easier OK :D.

@cindy99 has covered the basics for you, but will confirm her guessing correctly lol ;)...

VT (or variable temperature mode) is often more commonly referred to as TC or Temperature Control mode if you wanted to Google more info on the specifics, you may find it easier searching for explanations using TC. NOTE:. Unfortunately, you can't set the wattage whilst in VT mode on your device like you can on many other mods that have full VT/TC capability!!!

I think you'll find it's VW mode, not VM. VW mode is indeed more commonly known as variable wattage mode, power mode or wattage mode. For commonly used coils such as kanthal or NiChrome (Ni80), your mod will be in VW mode. Kanthal or NiChrome can't be used in VT mode.

If you use a Nickel coil, your device should automatically enter VT Ni mode (Nickel or Ni200 coils should only be used in its respective VT Ni mode, never VW). You simply set the maximum temperature you'd like your coil to reach to determine how cool or warm/hot your vape becomes, your device will do the rest. It's that simple :).

If you use a Titanium coil, your device should automatically enter VT Ti mode. Same applies as to Nickel above and Ti should also only be used in the respective VT Ti mode as well.

If you use a Stainless Steel 316L coil, SS can be used in either VW or VT mode. In VT mode, you set the max temp as with Ni or Ti, in VW you set the wattage Your device will default to VW mode, if you'd like to change to VT mode when using SS, your manual explains how to do this.

If you install any of these coils into your tank and place it on your mod, your mod will prompt you to ask if it's a new coil or the same coil (if you removed the tank for cleaning and you're putting the same tank and coil back on, you can choose same coil). If a new coil has been installed, it's especially important you choose this option if you're using a coil that will be used in VT mode. Your device asks this to calibrate the base resistance of the coil. It's also important that you only do this when the tank is cool and hasn't been used for long enough to return to room temperature. If in doubt, select new coil. NOTE: the exact wording may differ on your device, but you'll easily understand the meaning.

The TCR modes (M1 & M2) are custom modes for wires/coils not already programmed onto your device and they require a specific number to be entered that precisely matches the corresponding material/wire/coil being used. In general, they are a more specialised feature for vapers who build their own coils out of TC sensing wires such as other variants of SS (304 or 317 as examples) Obviously, if you won't be building your own coils, you probably won't need the custom M1 and M2 modes. However, more stock coils could become available in the future using other TC sensing wires, so you can at least manually add those too if it's not added in a firmware update by the manufacturer.

As you may already be working out. The differences are, in VW mode, you simply set the desired wattage or adjust your wattage as required and vape away :). In VT mode, on your specific device, you simply set the maximum temperature you'd like the coil to reach or adjust as required and also, vape away :). The differences ultimately are for the different available coils that you may use in combination with your tanks. VW controls your vape purely by the amount of power you send to the coil by setting themwattage, VT controls it by continually assessing how much power to send to the coil and by throttling the power to keep your coil at the max set temp. Your device is simpler than other TC capable devices as mentioned, in that you can not adjust the power/wattage when in VT mode unlike many other available TC capable mods. At first this may prove a more simple option for you, but later on, depending on just how much you get out of vaping and how much you become involved in it all, you may desire a mod with more comprehensive features or more power, time will tell ;). For now however, you have a good solid mod to learn about vaping that has plenty of power for you to enjoy a range of tanks, coils and liquids :D.

Enjoy :).
