Rewickable coils

I can't comment on the correct power for 0.50 ohm build - if the coil wire is specifically labelled as MTL then it should be OK but 0.50 seems suspiciously low for an MTL build, normally I stay in the 0.80 to 1.0 range at about 16 watts, but I,m not much of an MTL user - others here will have far more experience.

I don't own this tank but after watching a few reviews the air inserts are about 1mm and 2,2mm . The 2.2mm you have been using will need a more power than you have been accustomed to using - but is geared for Direct Lung, your 0.50 ohm coils will be good for DL, but it won't give you a good MTL as it will be more airy and cloud oriented.

I'd try to experiment with the 2 pins/power levels/airflow adjustment to see if you can find a happy medium, but unfortunately tanks that are dual purpose MTL/DL are sometimes jack of all trades masters of none.

Hey Crispy? Many thanks for all of that.

I think I'll look to get some 1.8 ohm wire, and possibly go for a different tank that's specialist MTL. This one was only a tenner so no big loss! If anyone has any RTA MTL tank tecommendations...

Actually I've got some of this arriving tomorrow:

Kanthal A1 Type Resistance Wire 100ft (30m) Spool 22-32G AWG (32G)

If I put more coils I can get it up to 1.8 right.

Kanthal A1 will work, but I hope you haven't ordered 32 gauge as that is incredibly thin wire generally used for the wrapping the outside of complex coils like claptons/aliens etc. To make a 1.8 ohm coil you only need 4 wraps of 32 gauge, and as it is 0.2mm thick the coil will be less than 1mm wide and give zero flavour. Most people use either 26 or 28 gauge Kanthal for MTL builds. Personally I wouldn't go as high as 1.8 ohm, I build between 0.8 ohm and 1.0 ohms, but everyones tastes are different.

If you did order 32 gauge - I recommend you check out www.steam-engine.org which will give you lots of info about what wire, how many wraps, what recommended power to use etc.

About your RTA - one problem I had when I used my first rebuildable MTL was because the airflow seemed too tight, and I wasn't getting the same draw I was used to, I was inhaling like crazy on the damn thing to get more vapour. This didn't work for me as what I was doing was pulling so hard to get more vapour I was ruining what flavour it was producing because I was cooling the coil too much and diluting it with too much air. It could be you are so used to the draw on your previous coils you were pulling too hard as the tight draw of the MTL airflow pin seemed ridiculously tight for you. Try fitting the MTL pin, turn down the wattage to about 12 watts and taking long gentle drags, gradually turning up the power by a watt or 2 each time to see if you can find a sweet spot. Hopefully this may work.

I tried the MTL pin but it was a really uncomortably tight draw. I'll try it again.

Is a 0.5ohm coil at 20W just not going to get hot enough with the airflow of the DL pin? I do like the warmth I suppose.

I didn't get on with this tank either. The MTL pin was too tight for me and the other pin was too loose. As said earlier something like a 1 ohm coil would work better using 27 or 28g kanthal wire. Also your coil might be set a bit high.

Sorry, I've only just seen this.... I think it's established that the 9th isn't a great tank, hence it's cheap sale price. My mate bought one of those and an Ares 2 and he only uses it as a back up.

Those naturevape coils had amazing flavour though, I remember being shocked the first time I used one... and the nautilus coils are no slouches either in the right tank.

I did offer Aspire some feedback and suggested they provide more airflow pins, however I think they have moved on to other projects.

Cheers for all the great advice.

Yeah I've only really vaped with the naturevapes and nautilus coils, so I was hoping for at least as good as that, since I'm happy to rewick every day. I might try the Ares 2 if that's a good one.

Pity if I've got the wrong wire, will get some 28.

26, 27, or 28 are all pretty good for MTL coils in my experience. It's all personal preference though and does depend on the tank.

If you look in the MTL section you'll find a whole load of rebuildable tanks that are worth looking at.

If u did order 32g, u can take 3 or 4 strips and just twist them together and use that 4strip to make a coil as if it were one wire, so its not a total loss if u did

It might actually improve the ramp up and cool down times of your coil
