Theoretically yes, no problem. But how would you warranty that? I don't think I would.
You could make a kind of floating connector but that might also cause problems with the amps going through it.

Well the top cap on my Zmax is screwed on so it must be attached via a wire to the electronics.......I would also suggest that the length of that thread is longer then you would ever need for an adjustable centre pin

If I was being picky, the whole 510 connector could do with being a mm shorter, and everything would fit flush. I have yet to find anything that wont screw all the way in to the connector, but the lip is slightly higher than the casing, resulting in a very small gap.

I must say this is one of my gripes but I will invest in some polished ss washers

With my mod (Sigelei Zmax) I suspect a "hippo" would sort the gap between mod and atty and also the chamfered top (when using a 22mm atty).
