Autosol polish

So I hear a lot for and against using autosol.

I hear ‘it may damage mech tubes in the long run’? I hear ‘been using it for 4 years with no problems whatsoever’

but read that it CAN be used on brass and copper at home from autosol.com.ah?

Asking as I just also bought some mother’s mag and it didn’t rally come close to the same finish achieved with autosol..

Autosol is good, but it is abrasive - when I used it on motorcycle chrome scratches were visible (in bright sunlight) after use.

I've never used Mother's Mag so I can't comment.

Use whatever works for you. I like Brasso, but it is hard word and stinky...

Or any other plated surface.
Used it a lot on motorcycle Ali cases.
You can get really good shine with it.

Yes. I found out the hard way about not using it on chrome..

Although autosol is abrasive, so is Brasso, - I've just been wary of using it since I screwed up with my bike but I suppose they both do the same thing so both work just as well. I wouldn't use autosol on steel tubes, but I can't remember cleaning anything but the threads and firing pin on my steel mechs so its probably irrelevant.

I also like Peek but just lately i have been using Cape Cod cloths the shine seems to last longer.

Autosol by all accounts markets its use on chrome and most metals? Offering a protective layer so I’m still confused as to why ‘some’ mech heads oppose its use?

if used sparingly I can’t see it being overly aggressive or damaging to top grade metals like Kennedy’s? Maybe if layered on and left perhaps

Autosol may market itself for chrome but it leaves very fine scratches in it.

30-40 years ago there was loads of choice, now there's only one or two liquid chrome cleaners.

You can though, buy an empty tin for 2.99 plus 3.65 postage, on ebay
