Getting to the bottom of Cherry

is the flavour of a fresh cherry actually quite subtle? i’m thinking it is, and that the experience of eating a cherry is a combination of several things, this subtle flavour, slight tartness, the mouthwatering sensation and the texture and juiciness of it. maybe this is why it’s not easy to replicate artificially, especially in the form of vapour?

various kinds of preserved cherries, or ones that have been cooked with sugar, might accentuate the cherry flavour, and this leads to the flavourists over egging certain aspects of the cherry flavour - that they find in these more strongly flavoured altered cherries - in an attempt to make a punchy, bold cherry flavour, but that are not actually very much there in an individual cherry, and this leads to the disappointment, marzipan/bitter almond etc?
Yes I'd imagine that's the case though with all flavours but maybe the cherry is just very complex.
I'd say out of the 19 I've tested that maybe 6-7 are pretty good in their own right but none of them are the full package.
It will be a blend of maybe 2 3 or 4 of them that I'll end up with to get what I'm looking for then there's also the added pain of trying to overcome the fading issue.

Oddly enough, this vaguely related video popped up in my youtube feed.

.... I do watch this channel so not too odd really. :)

Ha! Cyanide. Common sense was telling me something :D

I seem to be on a slightly different path for this cherry stuff... but I was watching the newest episode of 'noted' on cranberries and they were talking about them tasting like juice and the suggestion was made to try mixing the cranberry with VT red dates, to get something more akin to a semi-dried cranberry that could be added to a bakery or something.

So I'm wondering if this might work with cherry too, to get something that would work in the context that I need it to.

Does anyone have VT red dates? It's made me curious to see if this would work.

I've got tfa date but never sampled it individually.
I'd imagine vt red date if it's true to form to impart mostly sweetness backed by fruit similar to a plum jam but not sure if that's going to help what you're after.

Great stuff @StrawberryRipple . I've never felt the need to have a cherry flavoured vape so haven't really delved into that profile yet. I've read some good things about the SSA cherries and will probably pick up a couple in my next flavour order and post my findings here when I test them.

SSA ? Which ones are these?
Hopefully I'll get the time to go through these again this weekend and eliminate the ones that haven't made my shortlist and work on pairing up some of the others.

Sobucky Super Aromas (SSA).
Ah the Sobucky/Chemnovatic/Molinberry enigma.
I did some research into Chemnovatic when i first came accross them and i might be wrong but it appeared to me that Sobucky first produced flavourimgs for Molinberry before releasing Chemnovatic.
All appears to be the same source but like i said i could be mistaken.
Seems they're releasing under their own name now.
