Wooden mod - what treatment

Hi,

going to make my first mod, using a currently untreated wood. Any advice on treatment to protect the wood from any liquid and prints? nothing really shiny though if possible.

I use W.S. Robson's furniture polish (beeswax, Carnurba wax and turpentine) on my wood mods. Can be buffed up nice and shiny or left matt.
