Hello again.
I have been given a couple of pieces of decking made from Okan.
Which was left over from a job in Milford on Sea.
So just a short build today.
The Okan.
This stuff is an African hard wood. And it is Heavy and rock hard.
I have tried to drill this wood on several occasions and failed badly.
Basically when drilling 75mm deep holes into it creates so much heat even with the speed of the drill turned right down it tends to split very quickly due to the dense fibers.
So you have to take your time 10 mm then leave alone till it cools. Then 10 mm again and so on.
So as you can imagain it takes a while.
After what seemed like a life time of sanding back and getting the shape i wanted.
A touch of Danish oil helps bring out the grain with a degree of protection.
We have.
The keep eye among you will see the obvious mistake i made. Im holding the mod to the left. Should have been the right hand side where the piece was cut from. As the decking is in this pic upside down.
Hopefully finish it off tomorrow.
Thanks for looking.
