Vaptio are a US based company established in Seattle in 2014, and are constantly looking at how they can change the vaping world through innovation and design. Since their inception in 2014, they have quickly grown their product line to offer hardware geared towards all users, from beginners to experienced vapers alike.

Although research and product design is done in the US, the manufacturing of Vaptio hardware is actually outsourced to First Union Group-a company established in 2004 with their headquarters in Shenzhen, China. First Union Group employ over 5,000 staff and run three separate manufacturing plants equipped with LEAN production lines to meet dust free product guidelines. They are compliant with all leading manufacturing standards and qualifications thanks to their strict quality control procedures.

Design and Build Quality

The Vaptio Throne Tank has very regal styling, hence the name of the tank! It's certainly one of the more unique looking atomisers out there, and definitely a tank to consider if you are looking at something that looks a little different. The Throne Tank measures in at 54.9mm in height and 23.5mm width, with six different colour finishes available for purchase.

Tank capacity is a TPD friendly 2ml, and a leak resistant top filling system is used. Twist off the top cap to fill the tank, and as you rotate the top cap the juice ports will automatically close off to prevent the coil head from becoming flooded. As you twist the top cap back on, the ports will open back up to allow e-liquid to flow to the coil. It's a great system in practice and I didn't experience any leaks when filling the tank.

A wide bore drip tip is fitted as standard, with a narrower bore mouth to lung drip tip included in the box if you would prefer a tighter draw. You can of course use your own preferred drip tip should you so wish.

Swapping coils is very easy indeed thanks to the Hotswap system which means you simply pull the coil head out by the top of it, and slot a new one in its place. It's a very easy system to use and makes coil swapping quick and easy! You can also easily disassemble the Throne Tank in order to clean it.

Airflow

Adjustable bottom airflow is present on the Vaptio Throne Tank, with two large cyclops airflow slots located on each side of the tank. The airflow control ring is smooth and easy to use, making it simple to adjust the airflow to your preferred setting.

Performance

Vaptio have marketed the Throne Tank as a stock coil atomiser that offers both a direct to lung and mouth to lung vaping experience. A 0.25ohm Throne D1 coil head is pre-installed with the tank, designed for direct to lung vaping, and a 1.2ohm Throne D2 coil head is also included in the box for mouth to lung vaping. Both wide bore and narrow bore drip tips are included to suit both vaping styles.

As the 0.25ohm Throne D1 coil head comes pre-installed, this was the first coil head that I used. This offers a warm and airy vape, which I found performed best at 70-75W. I got very good flavour from this coil head, in fact it was extremely impressive for a sub ohm tank! Vapour density was as expected, with plenty of clouds produced! I was a little disappointed however when the coil head burnt out within three days, rendering it unusable!

Next up was the 1.2ohm Throne D2 coil head, and I switched the wide bore drip tip over for the narrower bore one. This is marketed as a mouth to lung coil head, however I felt that the design of the tank meant that a true mouth to lung vape couldn't be achieved, even at low wattages of 12-14W. Although again the flavour is very good, it still feels a little too airy for a true mouth to lung hit. As with the D1 coil head, the lifespan of this coil head wasn't great, and it burnt out beyond use after four days.

Capacity of the Throne Tank is a TPD friendly 2ml, however it does drain very fast. The Throne Tank does wick exceptionally well, and I encountered zero wicking issues no matter what e-liquid I used!

Conclusion

As a direct to lung sub ohm tank, the Vaptio Throne Tank performs extremely well, offering a very flavoursome vape with plenty of vapour to match! I do however feel that the Throne Tank is too airy to provide a true mouth to lung vape, and I was disappointed with the lifespan from the coil heads- though this may be an isolated issue with the coil heads I was provided. It's a unique looking sub ohm tank for sure, and it would be a real contender if the coils lasted a little longer!

Many thanks to Vaptio for sending the Throne Tank in for review.
