Captain S Sub Ohm Tank styling and build quality

The Captain S is an attractive and rather unique looking tank. In the gun metal paint scheme it looks especially striking. Despite being 25mm diameter it is relatively compact. The overall construction is good and everything fits together well but I did find the thread-less pre-installed coil a little troublesome to remove.

If you’re in the EU the tank is limited to 2ml capacity which to be honest seems a bit ridiculous with the low Resistance coils which are included but that isn’t really IJOY’s fault. The top fill works well and even has “Push” clearly marked on the side so you know which way to open it. The included drip tip is made from Delrin and features a tapered design which is comfortable on the lips. You can swap this out for any other 810 drip tip (Kennedy and Goon drip tips) or make use of the included 510 adapter to fit any 510 drip tip from your collection.

What makes this particular tank unique is the way the lower part below the glass is recessed. IJOY calls this a Unique Groove Chassis and while it certainly works to some extent, the tank will still get hot if you chain vape.

The 510 pin is Gold-plated to ensure excellent conductivity. I had no issues fitting this tank flush to any of my mods but keep in mind that a 25mm tank may overhang on more compact devices.

Airflow

With dual slots and a wide bore drip tip, the Captain S has plenty of airflow. Obviously it’s really only going to suit those of you who prefer a direct to lung style of vaping. Even closing down the airflow heavily and swapping out the drip tip for a narrow bore one doesn’t affect things greatly and will still only suit a slightly restricted lung inhale.

The airflow adjustment works well and the ring stays in position. You do have to take care that you only adjust the ring itself since it is possible to grab the knurled base and accidentally start loosening the tank.

Ease of use

On the version I received the coil had a habit of sticking to the tank’s chimney and proved a little troublesome to remove at first. The top fill mechanism works well but the slot is a little small if you’re filling up with a large short fill bottle.

How does it vape?

Making use of the pre-installed 0.3ohm coil I filled up the Captain S tank with some Vampire Vape Sticky Spot. After allowing a little time for the coil to fully saturate I took my first vape at 30W and then gradually increased to 60W. What was surprising is the very quick break in time for the coil since I got great flavour right away.

I found vaping the 0.3ohm coil at 65W with the airflow half open to be the sweet spot for me, since the flavour was very rich, offered plenty of warmth and loads of vapour! When the tank is full you do get a small amount of spit back initially but this tends to go away before long. The included drip tip works well but I actually swapped it out for one of my lower profile 810 drip tips which actually yield a slight improvement in flavour. I pushed the 0.3ohm coil up to 80W and had the airflow fully opened up, flavour was boosted somewhat, as was vapour production but it was a bit too hot for my tastes and led to increased spit back.

All in all I thought it was a really great tank which offered a really enjoyable vape its only shortcoming is its 2ml capacity which means you sadly have to refill often. Personally I would suggest that if you really like the sound of this tank and think that it’s something you will use often that you shop further afield to get a larger capacity version.

Conclusion

Apart from some extremely minor issues I felt this was a really good tank which offers great flavour and loads of vapour. If you love cloud chasing tanks this one is well worth checking out!

Many thanks to IJOY who kindly sent this product to Planet of the Vapes for us to review.
