Sadly you don’t get a great deal with this tank but that is understandable considering the Mermaid is intended as a budget product. You get no spare glass and only one coil so this really is a barebones package. I think it is something of an oversight not to include at least a basic leaflet explaining the importance of priming coils and some information concerning how to use the tank would have been useful to new users. For anyone who is familiar with Sub Ohm tanks it’s a non-issue but considering this might be someone’s first tank I do find it a little remiss.
Baijiada Mermaid Styling and build quality
The build quality is excellent and in line with the finish you would expect from any Sense product. Everything fits together very well and the tank can be completely disassembled for cleaning. The glass is suitably durable but do keep in mind that if you break it you will need to replace the whole tank because spare glass is not included. The tank is 22mm diameter and it is very compact so for anyone looking for something with a low profile this will be quite appealing!
Sadly this tank does not have top filling but I assume that is due to its being a budget product. The Mermaid comes with a wide bore Delrin drip tip which will keep heat away from your mouth when vaping at high wattage. Unfortunately the tank is not compatible with every drip tip I tried. Some fitted fine whereas others where loose or left a gap. Despite various drip tip fittings being a little hit and miss I rather like the included drip tip so it is not really an issue for me.
The tank features a copper contact to ensure excellent conductivity, in addition the interior of the chimney section appears to have a copper rim. I tried this tank on my various mods and it fitted flush on each one. One thing is for sure this tank has plenty of airflow and features quad adjustable Cyclops style slots.
The Mermaid has a 2ml juice capacity so depending how often you vape you will more than likely have to refill often.
Ease of Use
This tank is very easy to use and I don’t honestly see anyone having any problems with it. The base unscrews for refilling and also allowing easy access to the coils. There is a reasonable gap between the main chimney and the glass so you shouldn’t have any issues filling.
The Mermaid features quad Cyclops slots that are adjustable and can be either fully opened up or completely closed down. In terms of the draw this is a tank intended for lung hitters but do keep in mind that it is a slightly restricted lung inhale and not quite as airy as other tanks you might be used to. You certainly couldn’t do mouth to lung vaping with this so if you prefer that kind of vape then this tank won’t suit you. I found that the airflow ring was also somewhat stiff to adjust but nothing you can’t put up with.
How does it vape?
I primed the included 0.4ohm coil with some Cake Vapor’s Strawberry Shortcake and then filled up the tank. Like with any Sub Ohm tank I allowed a sufficient amount of time to pass before taking my first vape. I initially vaped at 30W but at that wattage you would be lucky to get any vapour out of this tank. I quickly increased to 40W and while there was more vapour and a little heat it wasn’t the kind of vape I was looking for. In the end 55W seemed to be ideal because at that wattage I got plenty of heat, vapour and great flavour! The flavour is excellent no doubt due to how close the drip tip is to the coil but the price you pay due to the compact design is limited capacity. The draw is really nice and you do get a great deal of vapour produced with the airflow fully opened up. In many ways the Mermaid is quite the little fog machine!
The real problem is that vaping at 55W with a 2ml capacity means that if you do vape often like myself you will drain that tank fast. To an extent I can overlook it because firstly this tank is intended as a budget product and secondly because it is a nice low profile design that some people may find desirable. Of course deep down I really wish this tank has a minimum 3ml capacity because I felt I was refilling just a bit too often. If the tank was top filling it would have bothered me less but sadly due to the bottom filling it means I have to take this tank off my mod every thirty minutes and it does start to feel repetitive.
Nevertheless in terms of the actual vape experience I do like this tank despite its drawbacks. The flavour is seriously nice and the Mermaid puts out a respectable amount of vapour which makes for a very enjoyable vape!
The one thing that ultimately disappoints me with this tank is the 2ml capacity. I do realise the Mermaid is intended to be compact but 2ml is rather poor and the lack of top filling makes it less desirable. Of course it depends a lot on the role you intend this tank to take, for example if you are at work all day then a compact tank like this might be ideal. On the plus side of things the Mermaid does offer an excellent vape and I think if you purchased this tank you would definitely enjoy it!
Many thanks to Grey Haze who sent this tank to Planet of the Vapes for us to review.
