VOOPOO Argus Z2

VOOPOO have brought out a superb kit to help disposable users switch to a more sustainable way of vaping. Antony tested out the new VOOPOO Argus Z2

VOOPOO is back with another entry in the Argus pod kit range with the Argus Z2. This time they’re clearly hoping to tempt people away from disposables towards a simple to use refillable system. The product page for the Argus Z2 even gives a breakdown of this vs a disposable where they reckon a Z2 kit plus seven additional coils and e-liquid is all the average vaper would need for a full years use potentially saving 364 batteries being sent straight to landfill. Add to this the wallet friendly price point (I’m already seeing this offered below £10 here in the U.K.), and they could be onto a winner here.

Specifications

  • 112 x 27.5 x 15.3 mm
  • 50.5grams
  • internal 1500mAh battery
  • auto draw only
  • uses Argus pods

The Argus Z2 is available in eight vibrant colours so you should have no difficulty finding one to match your style. I took an instant shine to the “Lake Blue” one myself (second from the left.)

The colour of your kit is displayed clearly on the front of the box along with a large “1500mAh” logo emblazoned across the top of the box, in fact the Argus Z2 logo is barely visible in the lower right hand corner. As you might expect from a budget kit, it’s pretty bare bones in the box with the Argus Z2 itself a 0.7ohm Argus pod installed, a brief user guide, and surprisingly at the price point VOOPOO has still managed to include a USB-C charge cable.

The design of the Argus Z2 has been cut down to a simple bare bones experience to appeal to the disposable user with zero learning curve. This means a zero button auto draw activated experience with two small non-adjustable air inlets near the top of the battery section, simply fill your pod with e-liquid and you’re away. The only things foreign to the disposable user are going to be the need to fill and periodically replace the pod, and having to charge the battery rather than sending it to landfill.

The main body of the Argus Z2 is plastic which has been laser etched which adds a great texture to the front and back of the device and provides a good amount of grip, this is capped off at the top with a metal ring around the pod recess which I’m assuming adds a little rigidity to this area for durability as well as breaking the design up visually.

One of the claims VOOPOO makes about the Argus Z2 is that it’s as light as an egg so on a whim I decided to test this out… I had three eggs to hand and the lightest one was 55.3 grams which is almost 5 grams heavier than the Z2! This of course makes it very pocket friendly.

On the front of the device is a small two colour LED which is white most of the time but will change to red with a low battery indicating it’s time for a charge via the USB-C charge port on the side.

In my charge test, this hit a peak charge rate of 0.67amps so it’s certainly no speed demon on that front taking a full two hours for a charge from zero. I recorded a final usable capacity of 1205mAh which is short of the claimed 1500mAh but is still more than enough for a couple of days of fairly heavy use.

The Argus Z2 uses the reliable Argus pod system with a convenient side fill system. These are amongst my favourite MTL pods which have great flavour along with a good coil life making them a budget friendly option, I’ve been using one pod for two weeks so far and it’s still going strong and zero leaks along the way.

Conclusion

If you’re a disposable user then you really should give the Argus Z2 a look next time around, you’ll get just as good a vape as you would there, especially with the wide range of e-liquids formulated to appeal to the disposable market these days, and you’ll save a small fortune in the long run. You shouldn’t discount this out of hand if you’re an existing vaper either as this is a great daily driver that you can easily throw into any pocket.

Many thanks to VOOPOO for sending the Argus Z2 kit over for review.

I was a twenty a day smoker for 25 years and like most smokers I was always going to quit "next week". Having hit my mid forties and having the usual smokers cough and difficulty with anything more than moderate exercise it was obviously time to give up the cancer sticks. I bought my first e-cigarette in 2013 when they were expensive, difficult to find and quite frankly... crap. I used it for about a week then went back to the roll ups, mark up another failed quit attempt. The fact that I had just changed jobs and was under quite a lot of stress probably didn't help. Move on to 2016 and whilst I was browsing eBay I noticed that one of the suggested items that would occasionally pop up was for a cheap e-cigarette. It looked similar to the one I'd bought 3 years earlier but it was only £5 (about 8 times cheaper than before) so I decided to give it another go on a whim. Once the kit arrived I managed to gradually replace the cigarettes with my new kit over a two month period and got into watching YouTube reviews for newer kit. My cheap and cheerful kit was replaced by a more upmarket affair, and being a noob I made a mistake once it arrived... I put in the supplied direct lung coil, this was of course a complete revelation and I haven't touched a cigarette since. Oh and I no longer spend the first five minutes of every day having a coughing fit either.
