VOOPOO has sent over the latest version of the Argus pod kit line up, the Argus G3, for me to test out. This features a fairly large 1500mAh battery and updated Argus v2 pods with a larger coil head featuring “golden cotton” for even better coil durability.
Specifications
- 120 x 27 x 15.2mm
- 62.8 grams
- Argus v2 top fill pod (2ml/3ml)
- Output 5~30 watts
- 1500mAh battery
- USB-C charging

The Argus G3 is available in nine colours and comes in a slip case, I love how this is presented once you slide the outer box away with a clear set of instructions prominently displayed next to the Argus G3 in a small presentation window.
Two of the colours have a diamanté design around the screen (diamond white and diamond pink) which should appeal to the fairer sex, whilst the other colour variants have a bold textured design around the colour screen on the front. I was sent the “Aurora purple” version for review which is, err how should I put it…a bit pink! It’s fair to say I’ve had a bit of light-hearted ribbing at work for the last few weeks using this, but you’ll be glad to hear that more sober bloke friendly colours are also available.

Also included in the box are two of the updated Argus v2 pods (0.4ohms and 0.7ohms), a USB-C charge cable, lanyard, and a little bit of paperwork.

This follows what is now a standard flattened pen style common in many of today's pod kits with a zinc alloy chassis and colourful polycarbonate shells on the front and back faces. The bold 0.96’ colour screen really stands out on that front frame and the branding is rather nicely done without being too in your face. It’s very pocketable too at just 63grams.

Along either side you’ll find the power button and the adjustable airflow controls. The simple one button menu system is easy to operate, especially given the instructions printed in the presentation box, and the airflow goes all the way from eye wateringly tight to a borderline restricted direct lung hit giving you plenty of flexibility depending on the pod you’re using which is all backed up by the usual flawless draw activation system on earlier Argus pod kits.

The USB-C charge port is on the bottom surrounded by a rubberised foot. Whilst this charged fairly quickly, hitting a peak charge rate of 1.88 amps and fully charging in just 45 minutes, it didn’t fare so well on the capacity front as I was only able to record 1017mAh which is far short of the claimed 1500mAh capacity. Even so, I was easily able to get through the day when using this as my only device.

Pods of course go in the recessed area at the top and are held firmly in place by magnets.

The updated Argus v2 pods have the same form factor as before with the ohm rating stamped into the fill plug which is conveniently placed on the side however there are a couple of key changes this time around. First of all, the coil head is visibly larger than before and VOOPOO are now using what they call “golden cotton”.
The golden cotton apparently has better heat resistance for improved coil head durability, and this does seem to work as I’ve been using the 0.7ohm coil for the last three weeks as my primary device and it’s only just now starting to lose a little of that clean flavour. It’s been absolutely solid up until now though and as always with the Argus pod it’s been a clean leak free experience.
One unintended consequence of the larger coil head though has meant that this is now a little trickier to fill as air tends to get trapped under the coil and sometimes seems to take an age to clear before you can resume filling. My solution has been to essentially half fill this if I’m pushed for time and completely fill the pod when I have a spare minute later on.
Conclusion
The Argus G3 is another solid entry from VOOPOO and their Argus pod lineup. The updated Argus v2 pods are the standout feature here with the same great flavour as always coupled with even longer coil life even if the pods are now a bit trickier to fill.
Many thanks to VOOPOO for sending the Argus G3 out for review

Score 8/10
- Solid performance as always from the Argus Pods
- Even longer coil life
- Battery capacity lower than stated
- Larger coil head make filling a bit more fiddly

Reviewer at POTVI was a twenty a day smoker for 25 years and like most smokers I was always going to quit "next week". Having hit my mid forties and having the usual smokers cough and difficulty with anything more than moderate exercise it was obviously time to give up the cancer sticks. I bought my first e-cigarette in 2013 when they were expensive, difficult to find and quite frankly... crap. I used it for about a week then went back to the roll ups, mark up another failed quit attempt. The fact that I had just changed jobs and was under quite a lot of stress probably didn't help. Move on to 2016 and whilst I was browsing eBay I noticed that one of the suggested items that would occasionally pop up was for a cheap e-cigarette. It looked similar to the one I'd bought 3 years earlier but it was only £5 (about 8 times cheaper than before) so I decided to give it another go on a whim. Once the kit arrived I managed to gradually replace the cigarettes with my new kit over a two month period and got into watching YouTube reviews for newer kit. My cheap and cheerful kit was replaced by a more upmarket affair, and being a noob I made a mistake once it arrived... I put in the supplied direct lung coil, this was of course a complete revelation and I haven't touched a cigarette since. Oh and I no longer spend the first five minutes of every day having a coughing fit either.
