A couple of days ago, we looked at a cracking little starter kit from TECC, the Sono Mini. Well now it is the turn of the bigger bro, the Sono, to get a turn in the spotlight as we take a deeper dive to see how it compares, and which would be the right choice for you.
The TECC Sono Mini is a completely back to basics pod kit that will have you up and vaping in no time, the Sono is just as easy to use but it also has a few more things to play with which will allow you to dial in the vape to suit your preferred style. It also features an improved design with some nice touches which push it up a level in many areas.

Unboxing, First Impressions, and Specs
The packaging is very similar to the little Mini, but there has been an upgrade in the included kit. As well as the device and two pods (yay!), you also get a decent quality charging cable, so it is a complete package this time round. The cable is a fairly decent length too, I hate leads that are too short even though you probably aren’t really going to do much with it whilst it is charging.

Taking the device out of the blown plastic tray, you can instantly feel a difference, it has a bit more weight to it, although it is still pretty light. It feels reassuringly solid. The rounded sides and corners are back, but this time there is an indented furrow going around the middle of the sides which psychologically makes it feel more secure in your hand. It also has a leather style pad along the back which give your fingers something else to get purchase on so on the tactile front, it feels like a step up.
On one side is a firm airflow adjuster, and on the other is a button which doubles as a fire button if you don’t want to use the auto-draw and also acts as a selector for the menu system. Then we come to the front which has a metallic branding strip and the screen, and here is one of the big differences between it and the Mini.

- Size - 117mm x 25.8mm x 16.6mm
- Battery Capacity - 1100mAh
- Power Output - 6-40W
- Coil Resistance – 8ohm
In Use
The TECC Sono can be used as a straight plug and play kit, there is nothing to stop you just filling up the tank and going with the basic settings. Like the Mini, it is a great vape from the off, but now we have the option to tweak things too. It uses an intelligent system which selects an appropriate power depending on which pod you use (other pods are available separately), but by pressing the button three times in quick succession, you can change the power in 1W increments. The default felt pretty good, but it certainly didn’t hurt to push things up a couple of watts. The power round robins and will not go higher than the pod can handle so it is definitely worth having a play around to find what works for you. Once you have found your personal sweet spot, take three puffs and it will save the setting so whenever you change the pod, it will remember what you liked and will automatically set it to that.

The auto-draw works brilliantly, it never missed a beat, so if you decide to just use that, hit the power button four times quickly, and the button will be locked. This is a great feature as it means you can stick the Sono in your pocket safe in the knowledge that it won’t accidently fire when you don’t want it too.

The airflow can also be tweaked with the handy slider on the side. It has a decent resistance so once set, it shouldn’t move, and you can take it from a loose mouth to lung down to a real cheek puller. I kept it around 2/3 open.
Another big difference between the Sono and the Sono Mini is the inclusion of a proper screen. I loved the dynamic display on the little kit, but with more options to play with, you need easy access to the information, and you get that here with clearly displayed power and a segmented battery bar. The HD screen is beautifully clear and crisp, and you can still see everything even in bright sun. There is also a little bar at the bottom which cycles through the colour spectrum as you take a puff. It is a great screen to use.

Performance wise, it is another really good vape, but it does use the same pods as the Mini so I would expect no less. The Sono pods are really good for flavour, and with the option to fiddle with the power settings, you can squeeze even more performance out of them. Obviously if you bump up the power, your battery will drain a little faster, but with 2A fast charging, you will never be out of action for long.

Sono vs Sono Mini
Both kits are great, and I’d happily recommend either but if you are looking for a new pod kit, which should you go for? If you are just moving away from ciggies or disposables, the Sono Mini is a great starting point. It is super easy to use and performs really well, providing a solid vape with great flavour. But if you want a bit more performance, like to tune in your own vape, and want a more premium feeling kit, the Sono is a no brainer. You really can’t go wrong with either though so it will be down to your own preferences.
Final Thoughts
TECC have really come up with the goods with both these new releases, the Sono takes everything the Mini has to offer and then adds a few more whistles and bells. It is still simple enough to use if it is your first kit, but it also has enough options to keep more seasoned vapers happy.
If the TECC Sono sounds like the kit for you, head over to TECC where you can pick the kit up. The full retail price is £22.99, great value for a kit that includes everything you need in a premium feeling package. But right now, and until the 12th February, you can bag an absolute bargain as it is currently at the launch promo price of £10.
Many thanks to TECC for sending the TECC Sono kit in for review.
