SKE Memers Aiva A1

SKE MEMERS vape has some interesting new ideas, and there are a few of them to try with the Aiva A1 pod kit

Share on:

SKE Memers vape have been operating in the U.K. for a while, catering exclusively to the disposable vape market and more recently with their line of nic-salt e-liquids. They have just released the Aiva A1 pod kit which features a refillable pod along with pre-filled pods and as this has a refillable option this time around, I agreed to take this one for a spin.

Specifications

  • 79 x 54 x 25.5mm
  • 70.2 grams
  • 850 mAh internal battery, type C charging
  • Output 12~18 watts
  • 2ml 0.8ohm refillable mesh pod
  • Segmented display with clock functions
  • Flashlight

I haven’t been able to find pricing on this yet as I don’t think it’s hit retailers at the time of writing, but I believe this is aimed at the budget end of the market so there’s a pretty bare bones unboxing with just the Aiva A1, a single refillable pod and brief instruction pamphlet included in the box. This will be available in six colours, and I was sent the “aurora sky’ variant for review.

The Aiva A1 has a pleasant pebble-like appearance with an all plastic construction. This makes it very comfortable to hold and the three raised textured areas on the side provide plenty of grip. There’s also a handy lanyard loop if that’s your thing.

SKE Memers vape make much of the “270 degree curved super informative screen” on the front of the device with its bold LCD display which is easy to read and has a couple of extra tricks up its sleeve. Under the wattage and power readouts is a clock which can also function as a stopwatch and timer (sadly there’s no sound which would have been useful for the timer function), and below this is a bright LED torch with four settings which can be activated by pressing the button on the top twice.

Out of these bonus features, I’d say the clock and flashlight are the most useful with the stopwatch and timer feeling a little more gimmicky than anything else. The rotary control knob on the top has proven to be easy to use with a series of presses required to activate the various features and the rotary control to set the wattage and times etc.

On the base of the Aiva A1, you’ll find an adjustable airflow with three settings, and I would class all of these as being firmly in the mouth to lung draw range with my preferred setting being two of the three slits open. You’ll also find the USB-C charge port located here and in my charge test, this hit a peak charge rate of 0.98 amps with a final recorded capacity of 940 mAh achieved in 1 hour and 17 minutes.

The 0.8ohm kanthal mesh pod sits in the top of the Aiva A1 and is held firmly in place with magnets with just the mouthpiece protruding from the top, one down side of this design is that you can’t actually see how much e-liquid you have remaining. Airflow is taken in from the single slit at the base and I’ve not experienced any leaking or excessive condensation buildup under the pod which is good. There’s a small but functional fill port located on the side.

I would say the flavour here was about average for a modern mesh coil (in other words it was good) although I occasionally felt like an extra couple of watts over the maximum 18 watts available here might have been helpful.

There will also be a range of pre-filled pods available with 15 different flavours on offer if you want the convenience of a disposable with a rechargeable battery section.

Conclusion

Whilst SKE Memers vape aren’t exactly new to the vape scene, this is their first open refillable pod system and it’s a commendable first effort. A couple of the extra features like the timer and stopwatch feel a bit gimmicky, but the torch function has been handy a couple of times. As a bonus for those of you used to Memers disposable systems, this also supports a range of pre-filled pods and you don’t end up throwing away a perfectly serviceable battery every time which can only be a good thing so this might be a great option for you.

Many thanks to SKE Memers vape for sending the Aiva A1 over for review.

Pros
  • Feels well built for a budget offering
  • Refillable pod with optional pre-filled pods
Cons
  • Some of the extra features felt a bit gimmicky
  • Can’t see e-liquid level

I was a twenty a day smoker for 25 years and like most smokers I was always going to quit "next week". Having hit my mid forties and having the usual smokers cough and difficulty with anything more than moderate exercise it was obviously time to give up the cancer sticks. I bought my first e-cigarette in 2013 when they were expensive, difficult to find and quite frankly... crap. I used it for about a week then went back to the roll ups, mark up another failed quit attempt. The fact that I had just changed jobs and was under quite a lot of stress probably didn't help. Move on to 2016 and whilst I was browsing eBay I noticed that one of the suggested items that would occasionally pop up was for a cheap e-cigarette. It looked similar to the one I'd bought 3 years earlier but it was only £5 (about 8 times cheaper than before) so I decided to give it another go on a whim. Once the kit arrived I managed to gradually replace the cigarettes with my new kit over a two month period and got into watching YouTube reviews for newer kit. My cheap and cheerful kit was replaced by a more upmarket affair, and being a noob I made a mistake once it arrived... I put in the supplied direct lung coil, this was of course a complete revelation and I haven't touched a cigarette since. Oh and I no longer spend the first five minutes of every day having a coughing fit either.
