OXVA sent this lovely XLIM Pro 2 DNA pod kit over for me to try out. It came in a nice bag, with a wee cool envelope as well that had a carbon fibre accent piece and a message from the team at OXVA in it. A lovely touch, but for reviewers only I imagine.

You can tell from the name that this is something special. If you’ve been around vaping for a while and have dipped into the culture, you’ll know that anything branded with the Evolv DNA name is a little bit more fancy than your run of the mill kit. In short, Evolv DNA kits are the high-end chip devices for temperature control and reliability. They are thought of as the pinnacle of vaping technology. I have a couple of mods that have DNA chips in them, and they really are the most reliable ones I own. I’m not even a temp control vaper, I just love the sheer consistency that they offer. And over the years they have evolved (funny that) and updated the chips to have what they call replay mode, which is a setting that will faithfully replicate your favourite draw. This is the first pod kit with both a DNA chip inside and replay mode. It is special, it really is.
And let’s not forget about OXVA as it’s their latest pod kit that has this functionality. I haven’t tried the XLim range yet myself. The other folk on the review team here at POTV are generally faster than me when one comes up, and for good reason. OXVA are one of the most consistent pod makers out there these days, and their kits have a reputation for being excellent, especially the XLIM range. Go to any vaping space online and OXVA XLIMs are usually one of the first recommendations for new users or those looking to upgrade to a new pod kit.
While I’d not tried a XLIM until now, I do remember the OXVA Unibox, which was a mod that had DNA like capabilities, along with a cracking little PC app that allowed you to set temp curves and do all sorts of things so I know that customisation is part of their DNA (see what I did there?). I passed the Unibox onto another member of the POTV forum as I wasn’t using it anymore, having moved on from using single 18650 mods to dual battery ones. I didn’t want it sitting unused as it was such a great wee device that I’m sure has withstood the test of time, well the three years since it was released. I’m rambling now, so I’ll stop the waffle. This isn’t a recipe blog after all…
The XLIM Pro 2 DNA Version is a pod kit with a 1300mAh internal battery. It has a 0.56” colour screen that shows the information on it very clearly. It’s got a 2amp USB Type C charging port on the bottom and fires with both a button press or by draw activation. There’s an airflow control slider that runs the range from tight MTL to RDL. Then there’s the DNA chip inside, which controls the temperature on the stainless steel coils inside the new XLIM pods to ensure that consistent draw and make sure you’ll never have a burnt hit.
In the box you get:
- 1 Xlim Pro 2 DNA Device
- 1 Xlim Top Fill SS 0.6ohm Pod
- 1 Xlim Top Fill SS 0.8ohm Pod
- 1 Lanyard
- 1 USB-C Cable
- 1 User Manual
- 1 User Guide

Style wise it’s a squished pen kit that is nicely compact in your hand but has that reassuring weight to it, so you know it’s been made with good materials. The body is zinc alloy and there are carbon fibre panels on the front and back, another sign of quality. The one I have is the luminous forged carbon fibre version, and it does look good with the luminous flecks in it that make it almost holographic. The finish is quite lovely, and the other colours available also look nice. On the front you have the 0.56” screen and at the bottom some OXVA branding. On the back, at the bottom, is the Evolv DNA branding, reminding you that it’s inside. One side has the airflow control, and the other has both your fire button and the replay button, that has a wee heart on it so you can ‘love’ the draw to replay it repeatedly. The pods are the same as the other Xlim pods you can buy and they all fit. The other, non stainless steel ones, just won’t have the anti-burn technology working with them, which is one of the main draws of this kit.

Function wise there’s a very handy insert to show you how to use this device. It really helped me figure out how to work it, and it’s clearer and handier than going to a manual that’s got really small writing on it. Holding both the fire and replay button for two seconds turns the kit on or off. Once It’s been turned on, I’ve noticed that the usual five clicks work as well. That’d explain why there’s no function noted for five clicks on the card.

Anyway, holding the replay button for two seconds will give you a wee run through of what to do as well, in case you lose the card or forget. Two clicks let you change the function of the LED light at the bottom of the screen, or you can turn it off if you like, just click twice to change, then again and again and so on. Three clicks let you change the wattage. It goes down rather than up and round robins so that you can find that perfect power for you. The wattage also changes by 1W up till it gets to 10W and then it moves by 0.5. Four clicks will let you go puff activation only or turn on both modes again, five is skipped, as noted. Six lets you change the language from English, German or Spanish, no love for our French friends here unfortunately, and then seven clicks will clear the puff count.
In use it is as simple as it needs to be. I took the film off the bottom of the 0.6ohm pod (or cartridge as they’re calling them now) that’s pre-installed and filled it up via the rubber bung on one side of the pod. After a few minutes, and a quick check on the card to see how to switch it on, I could vape away. And it is a nice vape, a really nice vape. There’s minimal break in time on the coil, and the flavour comes on right away. The vapour production is also very nice and consistent, and that’s the point. Despite being so consistent straight away, I let it run for a bit before pressing the replay button, but when I did, I got the same fantastic draw that I’d had just prior pressing the button. It just kept going and going, without any drop off in quality at all, even when the battery was fully depleting. I also made sure to drain that sucker of liquid to test out the anti-burn. It works, when there’s no juice in the pod it just doesn’t fire, so gone are the days of forgetting how much you have in there and suffering the burny burny throat and taste of singed cotton. I’m still in the habit of checking juice levels and filling when low, but you could just wait till you can’t take a draw anymore to find out it’s empty. That’s the convenience the DNA chip brings. Not a full game changer but certainly a massive improvement.

On the 0.6ohm pod, the draw is lovely and the airflow control is very nuanced as well. You can go from a RDL draw, which is what I usually like, to a loose MTL and then a tight MTL. I can see now why a lot of people already rave about the XLIM range if this is how the airflow works. The tight draw is really quite tight, and the loose draw is lovely and relaxed for loose MTL on the 0.8ohm coil as well as the 0.6. I do like a loose MTL when out for a pint, so it suits me perfectly. Whatever coil you prefer, you will get what you’re looking for with these pods as they are both great. I prefer the 0.6ohm for RDL, but have swapped out to the 0.8ohm for a MTL session a few times.

Final Thoughts
The OXVA XLIM PRO 2 DNA is the best pod kit I’ve ever tried. There are a couple that come close, with similar functions but this one just pips them due to the replay button.
The battery capacity isn’t massive, but then the kit is decently small, and portable. It works so well as a MTL kit that the battery doesn’t need to be charged too much. Even using it as a RDL kit, it won’t have you charging too soon either, and the 0.6 coil hasn’t stuttered at all for me, despite me trying to break it with repeated chain vaping.
I was wondering if it was the DNA name that had me so keen to talk this kit up. I honestly did think about it for a while but as I was thinking I was puffing away, and I do have to say that it’s not the name, it’s the whole package, the kit, the chip, the airflow and the overall experience that is so good. The pods do not leak at all, they’re also very well put together so it’s the whole thing together, both what OXVA have done with their design, and the DNA functions, that have me gushing so much.
For more experienced users, you can also hook up your device to E-scribe, Evolv's software that allows you to access more features and customisation options. Simply plug a USB-C cable that can handle data transfers into your pc and you can open up a whole range of new toys to play with if you like to tinker under the hood. Most people will be happy to just use the XLIM PRO 2 DNA as ic comes, but it is really great to have options.
The OXVA/Evolv XLIM Pro 2 DNA Version should be out soon. I’d recommend it for anyone, both new users and seasoned vapers and I’m happy to give this a 10 score.
Thanks again to OXVA for sending the XLIM Pro 2 DNA kit over to try out. I’ll be using it for a while and will definitely be buying myself another one too.

Reviewer at POTVI was a very militant smoker for many years…why would I stop doing the only thing I had left that I liked doing? Then I fell into vaping in 2017. My wife bought a cheap kit off from Amazon that stopped working and I took it to a local vape shop to see what they could do with it. An hour later and full of new knowledge about watts, ohms, and juice strength, I headed home with a new nautilus mini tank for her and raved to her about the helpful guy in the shop. I must have bored her with all my new found information. I tried her vape that night, and a week later bought my own kit. Then I found POTV and the amazingly helpful and generous people on it. A month later I was making my own (disgusting) vape juice, and a month after that I was winding coils for my new RDA. Six years on and I'm much better at making juice, and I now have no money but lots of shiny mods and tanks
