Lost Vape Thelema Elite S

Lost Vape have always represented a certain quality, and the latest Thelema Elite S brings that same ethos in a highly affordable package

I had a pretty good experience with the original Thelema Elite 40 late last year with its sleek form factor and E Plus Pod system which includes an optional RBA kit. Lost Vape has added a snazzy dual coil option to the E Plus Pod system since then, so I was very happy when the Thelema Elite S kit landed on my doorstep for review so I could see if it’s a worthy successor.

Specifications

  • 105.8 x 37.1 x 18.7mm
  • 65 grams
  • 1400 mAh internal battery
  • USB-C charging
  • Output 9~40 watts
  • E-Plus pod

The Thelema Elite S is squarely aimed at the budget market hoping to capture some of the lucrative disposable market that came to an end this June (I’m already seeing this online sub £9) so it’s a pretty bare bones unboxing with the Thelema Elite S, a single E Plus Pod, a lanyard, and some paperwork in the package.

The Thelema Elite S is available in six colours, and I was sent the “Twill Silver” and “Black Carbon” variants to review. If I was buying this myself, I think I’d be most tempted by the “Twill Denim Blue” version, and of course there's the obligatory pink and lavender versions if you’re feeling a bit more floral.

Externally this has almost the same form factor as the original Thelema Elite 40 kit with a few key changes.

Firstly it’s almost 20 grams lighter as Lost Vape has gone from a zinc alloy chassis to an all plastic affair to keep costs down. This has however been very well done, and neither version I was sent looks at all plasticity and they still feel solid enough to withstand any daily wear and tear. I’m really glad they carried this design over as it fits really nicely in the hand with the comfortable leather grip wrapping around the sides of the device whilst remaining small enough to be carried in a pocket.

The front face has the biggest changes from the original version; it’s a much more cut back affair with the LCD control screen now being supplanted with a simple series of four LED indicators showing your approximate charge level and two coils (more on that aspect later!).

The airflow control is located here and has a nice amount of tension to the slider meaning this won’t get accidentally moved around in use. Rather than an open slot, you only have three pinholes for the airflow this time which hints at a much more mouth to lung orientated vape compared to the original which is meant to be more of an all-rounder pushing firmly into a restricted direct lung vape when called for.

At the bottom of the front face there’s still a USB-C port for charging the internal 1400mAh battery common to the Thelema Elite line up. In my tests, this hit a peak charge rate of 1.43 Amps with 1175mAh recorded usable capacity which was achieved in just under 50 minutes.

Pods sit in the large recess at the top of the Thelema Elite S as before and are clearly marked on the base. There’s a generously sized fill port on the side, and the duck bill design is really pleasing to use.

This is of course compatible with the full range of E Plus Pods including the optional RBA kit, however the supplied pod is one of the new-fangled dual coil affairs. This has two smaller coils aligned one above the other which can be fired individually or both at the same time. This is controlled with the button on the side of the Thelema Elite S, and a double click will swap you between single and dual coil use.

With everything set up, I decided to start off in single coil use, plus this would give the coil time to bed in and hopefully extend the coil life. The Thelema Elite S is a purely draw activated system, and I’m happy to report that this has worked flawlessly, and as you take each puff, the coil indicators on the front control panel swaps between the top and bottom coil indicator so you can see which is the currently active coil which is pretty cool. What wasn’t so good here was the lack of any power options, your only real control here is to fiddle with the airflow to try and dial your vape in. Whilst this worked just fine, I found the vape a little underwhelming with rather muted flavour even on a single airflow hole.

After bedding the coil in for a day, I swapped over to the dual coil option where both coils fire at the same time. This was much more to my liking with a rich flavour that I remembered from the older single coil variants. Not surprisingly, this is what I stuck with for the remainder of my time with the Thelema Elite S although it did render the dual coil option a bit redundant.

The Lost Vape Thelema Elite S represents a good kicking off point if you’ve been curious about the E Plus Pod system before, especially with its entry level price point. I found the new dual coil pods to be a bit of a gimmick especially as I almost exclusively used this in dual coil mode effectively making it perform the same as the older single coil versions. This is of course compatible with all the earlier pods including the RBA version, but you might find this a bit limiting with the lack of any power options. Having said all that, the power levels are well matched to the pods, so you still get a really good vape here. If you’re coming off the disposables, this is a really good entry level kit to get you up and running without breaking the bank.

Many thanks to Lost Vape for sending the Thelema Elite S out for review.

Pros
  • Cheap as chips
  • Reliable E Plus Pod system
  • Good flavour when used in dual coil mode
Cons
  • I found the single coil option a bit underwhelming

I was a twenty a day smoker for 25 years and like most smokers I was always going to quit "next week". Having hit my mid forties and having the usual smokers cough and difficulty with anything more than moderate exercise it was obviously time to give up the cancer sticks. I bought my first e-cigarette in 2013 when they were expensive, difficult to find and quite frankly... crap. I used it for about a week then went back to the roll ups, mark up another failed quit attempt. The fact that I had just changed jobs and was under quite a lot of stress probably didn't help. Move on to 2016 and whilst I was browsing eBay I noticed that one of the suggested items that would occasionally pop up was for a cheap e-cigarette. It looked similar to the one I'd bought 3 years earlier but it was only £5 (about 8 times cheaper than before) so I decided to give it another go on a whim. Once the kit arrived I managed to gradually replace the cigarettes with my new kit over a two month period and got into watching YouTube reviews for newer kit. My cheap and cheerful kit was replaced by a more upmarket affair, and being a noob I made a mistake once it arrived... I put in the supplied direct lung coil, this was of course a complete revelation and I haven't touched a cigarette since. Oh and I no longer spend the first five minutes of every day having a coughing fit either.
