Fumot Tornado Mini Pod

Fumot are continuing to bring their signature flavours to a more sustainable form with the Tornado Mini pod.

I was sent a bundle of these Tornado Mini replaceable pre-filled pod devices from Fumot directly to have a blast on.

I’ve had a few Fumot offerings come my way recently and they’re continuing their journey of TPD compliant and eco-friendly devices that you can pop pre-filled pods into to save waste and still give that disposable, but also quite authentic at the same time, flavour.

The Tornado Mini has a 500mAh internal rechargeable battery and takes pods filled with 2ml of juice. You get two pods in the package to keep you going, and each gives approximately 600 puffs (for those who like to count the puffs rather than the ml amount).

The draw on the pods is a tiny bit different than usual for me. I can’t get a massive draw really, it’s not a tight pull but you can’t really take a huge puff, which I think works well as it does replicate a cigarette a bit better than most pods. It’s purely MTL as a RDL draw won’t give you much more than a normal, steady MTL draw would.

Design wise, the devices are colourful and bright, each with a different big, brained alien design on them, and there’s some bright RGB lights in the bottom so there’s not much chance of a stealth vape in the pub. Some may dislike this, but my missus loves the designs and the lights so it’s not just appealing to the younger demographic, although I can see why companies are accused of pandering to teenagers. Whatever your view is, the kits are striking and funky, but Fumot also continue their trend of not making the colours of them match the flavours. A petty gripe but when you have a few of them it’s weird picking up a purple one and getting mint. Maybe they’re just subverting things and I’m just old.

But with Fumot, it’s all about the flavours really, and I’ve found so far that they do know what they’re doing. The flavours all have the usual disposable like degree of cooling and sweetener in them. I’m used to that by now so will try to not mention in every description how sweet they are, but I’m not promising anything. I was sent 8 out of the 20 available flavours so can only report on those.

Cool Mint

It’s cold and minty indeed. I get a spearmint at first, but it also gets deeper as you draw on it to give a medley of mintiness. Definitely reminiscent of mint sweets, and it’s also pretty refreshing.

Banana Ice

Ugh, banana! This one is quite realistic while still tasting like foam banana sweets. I had to try the second pod as my wife tanned the first one within a day of me opening it. She’s a banana fiend and assures me that this is a great one. There’s a creaminess to it, as well as the sweetie profile that makes for an interesting take on the flavour.

Peach Ice

I tried a Fumot peach juice before and felt it didn’t quite represent the fruit that well, but this one certainly does. It’s quite mouth-watering and captures a range of the flavour from a real peach, while still having the ice and sweetness that you come to expect. I do get the fuzziness of the skin, as well as the sweetness of the flesh and there’s just a slight, slight taste of the flesh around the stone in there too to balance it a touch. Lovely.

Red Bull Ice

I tried a red bull flavour from Fumot before as well and got a hammy tang from it, something I still laugh about. This one is completely different, thankfully, and tastes like red bull this time. There’s a perfume to it that doesn’t feel out of place as it’s toned down a lot by the overall energy drink flavour and it works ok. It's not my favourite flavour profile but still very nice.

Lush Ice

I don’t know what this flavour is meant to be, but I’ll tell you what I taste. Watermelon, lots and lots of watermelon. There’s a different flavour in there too and I want to say honeydew, it’s like there are a few melons mixed in, and it is lovely overall. A really nicely done juice with a lot of depth to it that I keep coming back to so I can try and figure out what’s all there. It’s not super sweetened but tastes natural enough (damnit, couldn’t help myself).

Grape Ice

This one has the usual grapey taste but also has a nice fruitiness to it too. The dark musty flavour is there to emulate the skin at first but it kind of sweetens up, and there’s more of a range of grape in the end. I kind of like it and I’m not usually a big fan of grape. A good effort imo.

Mixed Berries

According to the missus, this one tastes very like one of the juices I make for myself which is high praise indeed! It’s a lovely medley of berries, with blackcurrant and raspberry coming through at first, and then others coming on the back end. I rate it a lot, and it’s probably my favourite one out of all the ones I’ve tried.

Strawberry Ice

A classic to end with, and it’s a nice strawberry, sweet and no hint of green, which is how I like my strawberries mostly. It does lean towards a more sweetie type strawberry but that makes it even more my personal taste. There is no off taste at all, and it stays nicely consistent throughout.

Conclusion

Fumot have done another good job with the Tornado Mini Pod range. The flavours are what drives me to enjoy them, and I like how they manage to mix in reasonably authentic flavours with the addition of ice and sweeteners without taking away from the actual taste of the juices.

The designs might not be for all, but I quite like them. Why can’t adults also enjoy cartoony bright designs?

The device itself is small and compact, with a reasonable battery life, given that the actual draw of the pods is aimed at purely MTL. It’s hard to take a massive puff, given the airflow design, and that will allow the mesh coils inside to last longer than most and get to the end of the juice without burning out too soon. You can still get a good draw by going steadily and not forcing it, so I may be a bit disingenuous to say you can’t get a big draw from it.

You can search for Fumot Tornado Mini to buy these from some online stores. I do hope to see their offerings in shops at some point as they are a good alternative to a lot of what you can buy just now.

Many thanks to Fumot for sending over the Tornado Mini Pods for review.

I was a very militant smoker for many years…why would I stop doing the only thing I had left that I liked doing?  Then I fell into vaping in 2017.  My wife bought a cheap kit off from Amazon that stopped working and I took it to a local vape shop to see what they could do with it.  An hour later and full of new knowledge about watts, ohms, and juice strength, I headed home with a new nautilus mini tank for her and raved to her about the helpful guy in the shop. I must have bored her with all my new found information.  I tried her vape that night, and a week later bought my own kit. Then I found POTV and the amazingly helpful and generous people on it. A month later I was making my own (disgusting) vape juice, and a month after that I was winding coils for my new RDA.  Six years on and I'm much better at making juice, and I now have no money but lots of shiny mods and tanks
