Pod System Reviews

Aspire Minican+

We are looking at another pod kit from Aspire, the Minican+. It can be hard for new pod kits to stand out in the crowd, but the Minican!

Share on:

Today for review we have the Aspire Minican+ which was kindly supplied to me by UK Aspire Vendor.

The original Minican was released last year and it was a small but well received device, and now we have the Minican+, why not the Minican 2? If someone said to me “I’ve got the Minican+” I’d respond “Plus what? Is this some kind of maths joke I don’t understand?”

Anyway, let’s see what’s been added and if anything has been taken away….

Aspire Minican+ contents

In the box there’s a puzzle to solve around quadratic equations before you can access the device....or there’s this lot:

  • Minican+ device
  • Minican+ Pod with 0.8ohm Mesh coil
  • USB- C charging cable
  • User Manual
  • Lanyard

The kit is available in semi-transparent colours which are blue, green, red, black and the one I was sent, orange.

“If you stop at general math, you’re only going to make general math money” – Snoop Dogg

Thanks Snoop but I’m not sure you’re a mathematician, unless we’re counting Gin + Juice!

This is a very simple device indeed, there’s no wattage control, no airflow to adjust, it’s just remove pod, fill pod, leave for ten minutes and vape. That’s it. It’s all really rather simple especially for a new starter who doesn’t want all the bells and whistles of some kits. The look is something I really like, it makes it a bit different that you can see some of the internals of the device and I’m glad they sent me the orange one as it’s my personal favourite of all the colours. It’s made of plastic but feels quite tough, and the only port is for charging the device. The device has an 850mAh battery which surprised me considering the small nature of the device, and it lasted quite a while, not quite enough to see me through a full day but I do vape a lot. There’s no fire button on the Minican+, it’s all done by auto-draw and this works really rather splendidly indeed. Normally if I have a choice I always use a fire button, but the auto-draw works so well on this device that I didn’t miss a button at all.

“I just change with the times. I really don’t have a say in what’s going on. Music was here before me” – Snoop Dogg

Thanks again Snoop, I was sure there would be quotes about maths from Einstein or Pythagoras but I was clearly wrong.

The pod is slightly smoked and contains a non-removable 0.8ohm mesh coil. It holds 2ml of e-liquid due to this being the TPD version, there is a bung in there which you can see but with it being a sealed unit, you’re not going to be able to get that out. The pod sits nicely in the top of the device, it’s held in place by magnets which do their job and there’s a decent sized fill port revealed by peeling open the bung on the bottom of the pod. The mouthpiece is a small duckbill and I actually found it really comfortable to use. If you prefer the original Minican pods, you can also use them here as they are interchangeable. But how’s the vape you ask, well I guess we’d better ask Snoop…

“You’ve got to always go back in time if you want to move forward” – Snoop Dogg

Sure Snoop, sure, very deep. Well Aspire haven’t gone back in time but they have moved forward. I loaded the pod with Lemon Tart and realised it would have been better with a Lemon Pi liquid, nothing? You don't like maths puns? Tough crowd!
The draw from this is nice and smooth and there’s a decent throat hit from that 0.8ohm coil with a decent amount of vapour too. The coil keeps up with wicking nicely and delivers good flavour from the off. It does take a while to bed in though, and you’ll notice the flavour get slightly better after a few refills. It never hits the heights of very good flavour, but it’s close after a while and, combined with the smoothness of the draw, it’s a satisfying vape. It’s a loose MTL draw though so if you want a nice tight MTL, which I prefer, then you’re not going to find it here.

“When I’m no longer rapping, I want to open up an ice cream parlor and call myself Scoop Dogg” – Snoop Dogg

Maybe I’ll open a rival and call it Tim’s Cones! There’s a lot I like about this device. I like the transparent design and the new shape, it’s small and easily pocketable. The battery is great for the size, the pods are easy to fill, the auto-draw works brilliantly, and it’s a nice draw with good flavour. The draw is a bit too loose for my personal taste though, yet it’s still a very satisfying draw. The coils are not replaceable which I wish all pods were, and Aspire only provide you with one pod which I think is a mistake. Although there is a white light to indicate vaping and charging, I think they should have added some coloured lights to indicate battery life as there’s no way to tell how well charged the device is.
Overall I think it’s a decent little kit though, and it’s provided me with a good experience. If you’re looking for a good pod system to vape when on the move or for someone looking to transition to vaping, then I'd definitely recommend checking out the Aspire Minican+ kit.

I was a 20 a day smoker for 25 years, I'd tried to quit before but I never lasted more than a few days. I first tried a vape pen in 2018 and i used it while still smoking for about 6 months before I gave the pen away to a friend. In Jan 2020 I decided to give vaping another shot, I scoured many articles on POTV and bought myself an Adept Zlide and some Chiri Sun and I've never looked back.I've now gained quite the collection of devices and liquids and started on rebuildables and some mixology. I love contributing to the forum and enjoy learning from fellow vapers and generally having a laugh, as a Forest fan you have to have a sense of humour!
