Fugly But Fruity Shortfills by Dispergo Vaping

Well if there was an award for the strangest brand name for an E-liquid range, Dispergo Vaping would win it hands down with their new Fugly But Fruity selection. For anyone who hasn’t come across the word “fugly” before, according to the urban dictionary, it means “Something or someone who’s extremely unattractive to the point that they are "f*cking ugly", and that seems a little harsh in my opinion as beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So, I have to disagree with the first part of the name, but there is no denying that these four e-liquids are fabulously fruity, which can only be a good thing whichever way you look at it.

You may also expect some unattractive branding going on, but no! These look great and will absolutely shine on the shelf of any self-respecting vape shop. The labels are bright, bold and are generally rather attractive. No uggers here! They also clearly show the flavour, with pictures of the fruits worked into the art as well as being written in text. I like this as I find overly enigmatic juices that are cryptic just for the sake of being mysterious are just a bit annoying. I want to know what I’m vaping so I can adjust my set up accordingly. The only thing missing from the label info is the ratio, but a quick look at the website confirms that these are 70VG/30PG, although your final results will depend on whether you add PG or VG nicshots. The ones that Dispergo Vaping include (free) are VG so cloud chasers will be happy.

Blackcurrant and Cherry

“Fugly But Fruity’s Blackcurrant Cherry is a delicious blend of rich blackcurrant mixed with sweet, juicy cherries. Berrylicious!”

Cherry has long been my nemesis flavour, my search for the perfect cherry has been well documented on the forum and has led to many bitter disappointments over the years. What seems to work the best is when it is paired with another compatible flavour, and this is the secret of this juice’s success. The rich, syrupy cherry really works well with the equally rich but slightly tart blackcurrant and the combination delivers a surprisingly sophisticated vape. This is an easy all day vape for me, and I reckon anyone who likes berry flavours will feel the same.

Blue Raspberry Rhubarb and Lychee

“Fugly But Fruity’s Blue Raspberry Rhubarb & Lychee is an aromatic blend of sweet but tangy blue raspberry, a dash of tart from the rhubarb, finished with sweet, floral lychee, creating a perfectly balanced flavour that will tingle your tastebuds”

Well, these are three fruits that I would never have thought to put together! It is an interesting combination, and not one for anyone looking for a subtle blend. The raspberry and rhubarb work well, but I am not so sure about the lychee which brings out a slightly bitter note which seems in direct opposition to the sweetness of the blue raspberry. Dispergo Vaping have never been afraid of piling on the flavour, but on this one, I think it could have been dialled back a notch which would give the individual flavours a bit more space to blend more evenly with each other. It’s not a bad flavour, by any standard, but I think it could possibly be tweaked a little to really bring out the best of this unusual combination.

Mango Passionfruit and Pear

“Fugly But Fruity’s Mango Passionfruit Pear is a luscious blend of juicy mango, tangy passionfruit, and sweet pear. Juiciliscious!”

Here we have another strange combination, obviously mango and passionfruit are a classic combination, but pear….where did that one come from? But you know what, it really works. After the familiarly tropical mango and passionfruit starts to subside, the pear sneaks in and it works to lighten up the mix. It is a surprisingly authentic pear too so you get that lovely juicy but slightly dry flavour which really shouldn’t work but does. This is an inspired recipe which proves that sometimes it pays to think outside the box.

Strawberry Watermelon and Papaya

“Fugly But Fruity’s Strawberry Watermelon Papaya Pear is fruit medley, consisting of succulent strawberries, juicy watermelon, sweet papaya balanced with a ripe, lush pear. So refreshing!”

Strawberry and watermelon are already a killer combination, and papaya is one of those flavours which works with so many other combinations, so I was already pretty sure we had a winner here, and I wasn’t wrong. It is surprisingly rich which even the watermelon doesn’t mellow, and some may find it a little too sweet, but I love a good sugar hit so this hits the spot for me. The strawberry is the star here though, with the other flavours working as great back up flavours to add layers of depth. It reminds me of a more American style of flavour, loud and proud and all the better for it.

Final Thoughts

After living with these new juices so a little while, I am still puzzled by the name. I mean we have all hooked up with that person we met in a bar who isn’t your usual type but after a few drinks suddenly seems like they might be good…erm…company, but it seems to be a bit of a reach to compare that to a rather tasty e-liquid range. So I’m really not sure what Dispergo Vaping were going for here, but what I do know is that Fugly But Fruity is a very tasty selection which will go down really well for anyone looking for some slightly unusual fruit flavours.

If you like the sound of the Fugly But Fruity range, you can buy them from Dispergo Vaping for £14.99 a bottle, or you can get 2 for £25 which is a great price for 200ml of top-quality e-liquid. As ever, they are covered by the Dispergo Taste Guarantee so if for any reason you aren’t completely happy, you can exchange them for another juice completely free of charge. So what have you got to lose? I mean it’s got to be better than a slightly dubious one-night stand, right?
