Frugi 100% Shortfills

A few weeks ago, we got to try the Frugi All Natural 100% VG shortfills and were pleasantly surprised by the flavour and quality on offer. This time we are back with some more flavours from the Frugi range courtesy of Vape Green, all 100% VG but still surprisingly big on flavour.
Frugi are on a mission to make vaping more accessible to as many people as possible by offering a complete selection of varied flavours but without the PG which is a known irritant for some people and is one of the main stumbling blocks for new vapers trying to make the switch. Whilst many of us have no problem with the more traditional forms of PG\VG based e-liquid, some people find it can trigger reactions such as throat irritations, sinus problems, hives and rashes, and gum problems, and these can range in severity from mildly uncomfortable to being quite debilitating. This is not what you want when you are just trying to get away from the harm caused by smoking, so it is great that there are dedicated ranges formulated specifically to make sure that everyone has a chance to make vaping work for them.
I won’t bore you by repeating what I’ve already said about the presentation and basic usage tips as that was covered in our previous review, and I am sure you would much rather we got to the meat of the matter, how good do they taste! So, without further ado, let’s load up the dripper and get on with the fun!
Mixed Berry Ice

As soon as the bottle was opened, I got hit by the strong aroma, this does not hold back on the flavour! I can’t say that I could pick out the individual berries, but it is a very pleasant overall blend. The iced element is mild and just gives it texture and lift rather than much of a chill, but it works well. If you are looking for a big fresh hit, you won’t find it here. It is also one of the sweeter additions to the range which suits me just fine as I have a sweet tooth, but it may not work for everyone. Personally, I liked it a lot.
Strawberry Kiwi

In a complete contrast to the previous flavour, this has very little smell and this was a precursor to the flavour. I guess it could be described as delicate, it is there but it is definitely on the mellow side of things. The sweetness seems to be the predominant note with a mild, almost candy like strawberry, and finally there is a very slight kiwi which freshens things up a bit. It wouldn’t be a flavour I would rush to go back to, it is nice enough but just doesn’t quite have the wow factor.
Real Tobacco

I’ll have to admit that I really wasn’t expecting much here, the whole range is very smooth without that PG hit, and I do like my tobaccos to have a certain throat feel. It also didn’t smell much like any tobacco that I know. So, I was really surprised to find that I really enjoyed this one. It doesn’t have that earthy feel or ashy taste, but it makes up for it in different ways. OK, I admit I’m really struggling to describe it in a way that will be helpful but I’m trying. I guess the best I can do is to say it is like a light but sweet Virginian blend with a little bit of spiciness and a really nice, sweet aftertaste. It is not a traditional tobacco flavour, but it is different and somehow it works.
Black Cherry Marshmallow

Ah cherry, my old nemesis! But wait, do we have a contender here? Anyone who knows me, knows I have spent years hunting for good cherry flavours, and I am delighted to say that we have a bit of a winner here. This is a delicious rich black cherry, plain and simple, and it is absolutely spot on. The marshmallow is stronger than I expected, and it pairs really well. This was the real surprise of the range, and I am really pleased to have found it. If you are looking for a really good cherry e-liquid, this one is highly recommended.
Strawberry Kiwi Ice

There’s a reason these two fruits go so well together: the strawberry’s sweetness is balanced out by the kiwi’s tartness, making for a super juicy-tasting all-day flavour.”
Back to earth with a bump after the heady heights of the Black Cherry Marshmallow, this one pretty much left me with the same feelings as the non-iced version. I think I slightly prefer the ice as it makes things a little more interesting, but it just doesn’t deliver enough for me.
Mango

This is another one that hits you as soon as you open the bottle, no mistaking what it is. The flavour isn’t quite as strong as the aroma, but I think that isn’t a bad thing as it might have been a bit too much. It is quite a perfumed mango rather than an authentic fruit, so I guess it depends on what you want from your fruity flavours. Again, it is not a bad flavour, but there are others I would pick first.
Strawberry Custard

This does exactly what it says on the tin, and we end this review on a bit of a high. This is your classic e-liquid flavour, sweet almost jammy strawberries and a thick rich custard. This one was another surprise as custards need a lot to carry the flavour well. Somehow Frugi have managed to pull this off, and they have done it with style. The smoothness of the VG only blend really adds to the rich texture. This is another one that I will certainly go back to, it’s a lovely vape.
Final Thoughts
I had my reservations when Vape Green originally contacted us to arrange these reviews as I have had 100% VG e-liquids in before and they are normally not that great. But we don’t pick and choose what comes our way and often we get pleasant surprises, and this is where the Frugi shortfills fit in. Whilst a few were a bit weak for my tastes (I do like big flavour), there were many more that I found highly vapable. Even better, I have found a couple of real winners here which really took me by surprise, the Black Cherry Marshmallow in particular really stands out as a fantastic juice, let alone a decent 100VG e-liquid. Finally, there are some really viable options for the PG intolerant, but there is also plenty for everyone else to enjoy too.
