Clew make a big impression with their latest nicotine pouch flavours

Here at Potv, we have been keen to champion all forms of safer nicotine products, after all we were founded on the principles of helping as many people quit smoking to pursue a healthier future. So we have been keeping a close eye on the movers and shakers in the nicotine pouch sector for a while now, and I was very happy when Clew asked if we would review a selection of their award winning range.

As with all safer nicotine products, as consumers, we are bombarded with misinformation, half-truths, and outright lies when it comes to the safety and effectiveness of nicotine pouches, it almost feels like our governments want to keep us in the grip of traditional tobacco. So it is particularly pleasing to see Clew are a brand that excel in openness and transparency about their products. Using advanced manufacturing processes and some seriously impressive testing processing, you can be sure you are getting some of the most consistently high quality pouches on the market at the present time. This hasn’t gone unnoticed worldwide either, they have won awards from the Inter Tabac Expo, Vape Con, the Asia New Tobacco Industry (Anty) Expo, and Vapearound at Vape Expo, for the best alternative nicotine categories. Talk about taking the scene by storm!

Clew very kindly sent me over four tubs from their range to review, and the first thing that struck me was the packaging. All pouches come in round tubs with a section for the pouches and on for the waste, but the Clew tubs just feel more premium. They have a glossy central panel which not only looks great, but if you buy a few of them, it really helps them to stay neatly stacked. It is only a small detail, but for someone like me who buys a month’s supply at a time, keeping things neat and tidy is always going to be an advantage.

Each flavour has its own colour identity too making it easy to grab the flavour you want in a hurry. Fruity flavours tend to have warmer colours, and the minty ones have cooler ones, all very logical!

I was sent 5mg pouches, but if you need a bit more of a kick, they also come in 10mg, 15mg, and 20mg. They are a slimline, moist pouch which I find are the best for fit and comfort. Once in place, they stay put and they stay out of the way, so you won’t get that tell-tale dangly white tag slipping over your teeth when you are trying to have a conversation! Being moist pouches, they have less of a break in period that some of the dry style ones. Clew claim a 45 minute period of nicotine release, so you are getting decent millage from each pouch too, and the flavour lasts well beyond that. Once you are finished, pop the dead pouch into the top of the container so you can properly dispose of them when you can get to a bin.

The Flavours

I was sent four tubs to try, two mints and two fruits, but there are some others to try if you like what you see.

Blueberry

This is a light but full flavoured blueberry, with subtle floral notes which helps build the whole experience. It is sweet but in a natural way which never becomes sickly. There is a slight cooling effect which adds to the subtle tingle, and it is a tingle rather than a sting, so it is a good one for people who find their gums are a little more sensitive. The flavour builds in richness and intensity, the longer it is in place, but it is the very natural flavour which really wins through.

Watermelon

I find watermelon can be a tricky flavour when it comes to pouches, too mild and you can taste the pouch material, and too strong is generally unpleasant, but Clew have got the balance right. It is light and on the sweeter side but still features that signature refreshing style you’d expect from a high quality watermelon flavour, leaning slightly to the candy side of the profile. Again, the tingle is light but there enough for you to know that it is working. In this heatwave we are currently experiencing, this may be the perfect flavour!

Spearmint

I normally avoid mints when buying for myself as I find they can get a bit too intense and the flavour can wear off quite quickly, so I was really surprised how much I liked both of the minty flavours I was sent. The spearmint is sweet and intense, with a much more intense tingle, but it never got too much ( have had to pull some others out before as the sting can get too much in one go!). It tastes very much like spearmint chewing gum, which is just what I like, and it lasts and stays fresh for a decently long time too.

Wintergreen

Now we are playing with the big boys, this is full on, chilled and as clean as they come. It tingles but without the burn, and it feels super fresh. It is a lot more menthol leaning so if you want to breathe easy, this is the flavour for you. I found the mints really complimented each other well, switching between the sweeter one and the cooler one, it keeps the old tastebuds alive!

Final Thoughts

Clew are definitely on my brands to watch list. Normally when I buy a selection, there will be one or two that don’t hit the spot as well as some of the others, but these four were equally impressive, and none stood out as being better or weaker that the others. The combination of superb flavour, comfortable fit, and a long lasting nicotine hit, make these a great choice for any pouch user. I can’t wait to try some of their other flavours in the range.
