The UK Vaping Industry Association (UKVIA) has long been concerned that misinformation about reduced harm vape products is driving poor decision making. By way of addressing this, the trade body is holding a webinar to address how best to arm healthcare professionals with evidence-backed information. The online event is free and you are invited to register. The webinar takes place on Tuesday 29 April between 9:30 and 10:30 am.

The UK Vaping Industry Association says: “England is nearly a decade behind its Smokefree 2030 target, with six million adults still smoking. Vaping has a crucial role in helping more people quit, but widespread misperceptions are holding many smokers back. How can we ensure healthcare professionals are armed with the right, evidence-backed information they need to confidently discuss vaping with their patients?”

Titled “Clearing the air: Empowering health professionals to support smoking cessation through vaping”, the webinar will be an expert-led discussion asking whether smoking cessation should be mandatory in NHS training.

The UK Vaping Industry Association asks: “With so much conflicting information, how can healthcare professionals talk confidently about vaping? How can we ensure they have the facts? Does smoking cessation need to be part of NHS training?”

Adding: “Despite record-low smoking rates, England is nearly a decade behind its Smokefree 2030 target, with six million adult smokers still in the UK. Vaping - an evidence-backed cessation tool - has a crucial role in getting those ambitions back on track. Yet, widespread misperceptions prevent many smokers from making the switch.

“Healthcare settings offer valuable opportunities to educate patients about vaping as a viable option to help them quit, but limited time, resources and training mean many healthcare professionals aren't equipped to share the evidence.

“This webinar brings together experts from public health, research, and tobacco harm reduction to explore how we can better equip healthcare professionals with the facts to confidently discuss vaping.”

Key topics to be covered:

  1. Latest evidence on vaping as a reduced-risk smoking cessation tool
  2. Common misconceptions among both patients and healthcare professionals
  3. Practical strategies for integrating vaping discussions into routine patient care

The UK Vaping Industry Association concludes: “Join us for this solutions-focused discussion, which is essential for healthcare professionals looking to ensure every patient interaction has the greatest positive impact in the fight against smoking.”
