The Global Forum on Nicotine (GFN) team has announced the introduction of a brand new, exciting addition to #GFN25: the GFN Photo Festival. The competition will build on this year’s conference theme “Challenging perceptions - effective communication for tobacco harm reduction”. The GFN25 team says the GFN Film Festival, GFN Photo Festival and GFN Fives all provide exciting opportunities for consumers and others involved in tobacco harm reduction “to portray it as they know and live it”.

The organisers say: “Given the prevalence of misleading narratives around tobacco harm reduction in the media, there is an urgent need for imagery that portrays the real-life experiences of those who switch to safer nicotine products.

“We invite you to submit your photos that centre around the phrase ‘tobacco harm reduction’, to illustrate the lived experiences of consumers and advocates, and which can help to counter the misconceptions that are rife in mainstream discussions of safer nicotine products.

“A panel of expert judges will rate your submissions based on creativity, originality and theme interpretation, and the best photo will win a $500 cash prize! Selected photos will also be displayed at #GFN25 in Warsaw.”

What could I photo?

The GFN25 team says: “All photos must centre around the tobacco harm reduction theme, but we enthusiastically encourage you to indulge in your creativity and tell us through your photos - what does tobacco harm reduction mean to you?

“Whether you decide to tackle this challenge by creating documentary-style photos that showcase the use of safer nicotine products in people’s daily lives, or more artistic/abstract expressions of the impact of tobacco harm reduction, we can’t wait to see what you create!”
