The GFN21 (1) organisers say it, “is the only international conference to focus on the role of safer nicotine products that help people switch from smoking. Safer nicotine products include e-cigarettes (vapes), nicotine pouches, oral tobaccos such as Swedish snus, and heated tobacco products. This is a rapidly evolving area, with many new non-combustible products emerging over the past ten to fifteen years.
“The rapid development and use of safer nicotine products raises a number of challenging scientific questions about their safety, who uses them and why, and the impact on smoking. These products also raise challenges for governments who seek to understand what kind of policy and regulation is appropriate. The GFN examines the rapidly developing science in relation to nicotine and its use, including policy and regulatory responses.”
The conference will take place in Liverpool, on Thursday 17th and Friday 18th June, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
Covid restrictions means many people will be prevented from travelling to Liverpool so the organisers have arranged for the proceedings to be streamed live online using their new GFN•TV platform.
Registration is open for those who are able to attend the conference. The fee for the two days is a reasonable £60. Accommodation can be booked at the Crowne Plaza Hotel using a specially negotiated rate (3) or using one of the many other hotels nearby. The organisers point out that the room rates are only guaranteed until 6th May 2021 so it is advisable to book accommodation early.
A number of the formal presentations in the programme will also be posted on the event website in advance, with the aim of providing the maximum time for presenters to engage in live hosted panel discussions and debates, which will provide opportunities for participants to comment and ask questions online.
For those who can’t attend in person or who will not be speaking, there will be an opportunity to have their own short presentations (‘GFN Fives’) posted on the GFN21 website in advance of the conference. These presentations will remain available on the website after the conference as a permanent record of the proceedings. Planet of the Vapes news editor Dave Cross will be taking part in the “Themes emerging from the 'GFN Fives' (2)” session on 17 June 2021, from 4 till 4:45pm.
The full programme is almost complete and can be seen here: https://gfn.events/programme
As an official media partner, Planet of the Vapes will be bringing you all the latest news about 8th Global Forum on Nicotine in the lead up to the event and during the conference itself.
