Everybody's got to learn sometime

Just as Scrappy Doo destroyed solving mysteries for the occupants of the Mystery Machine, young folks are encouraging daft approaches to ecigs.

Vapers are well versed in the ways of Stanton Glantz and his gang of truth-benders. Legislation proposals frequently appear to place science and the rights of the vaper at the end of the consideration process. With children now apparently campaigning against vaping it is possible that some may wish to don tinfoil hats.

At the beginning of the month we reported how parents were whipping their children into demonstrating against the opening of a vape shop in California. Cynics would say they may be penning letters for them and prepping the little ones into speaking to meetings too.

Collin Trout has many things to be concerned about. Is Trout worried about someone finding even more pollution in the waterways of Minnesota? Is he afraid of additional drunk gunmen running amok in Wal-Mart?  Maybe he is vexed about the closure of the last supermarket in Hurley? Nope, none of them; Colin wrote to the Duluth News Tribune in order to express his abhorrence at public vaping.

“I am a 17-year-old student. Kids my age and younger do not look at e-cigs as if they are a healthy alternative. Banning e-cigs in public buildings shows kids they should not smoke,” says the strident student. He continues: “I realize e-cigs are a great way to steer away from smoking real cigarettes. It is great we have an alternative.”

Hold on a minute there, Collin, didn’t you just say Kids like you don’t see vaping as healthier than smoking? “But when kids see an adult smoking an e-cig, they still think that he or she is smoking, regardless of what type of ‘cigarette’ it is. In our minds, e-cigs are still cigarettes. That is why they should be held to the same standards.”

Aha, so kids like you ape everything they see, we understand. Expect to see the young gent writing more letters to demand action on violence in cartoons, the speed cars are driven at in the Grand Prix and swearing in songs.

Meanwhile, over in Arlington, there’s been a consultation to discuss plans for the next school year. According to a local news source: “Three Arlington High students urged action on e-cigarettes at the meeting, saying their classmates don’t learn enough about the harmful effects of inhaling nicotine-laced vapour through the devices.”

Renee Hambilin, Mallory DeFeo and Elizabeth Kamya made the presentation as part of a school project that resulted in School Committee members deciding to add stronger warnings to the Arlington’s student handbook.

Locals may wonder if Arlington High School considered advising the students to make a presentation about some more pressing dangers. Over the last year, crime statistics (reported to the police) show:

  • 13 assaults
  • 1 burglary from a vehicle
  • 7 incidences of drugs being pushed on campus
  • 1 incidence of indecent exposure
  • 2 incidences of possession of drug paraphernalia
  • 6 incidences of marijuana possession
  • 1 robbery from an individual
  • 20 fights
  • 1 sexual assault
  • 47 incidences of theft
  • 1 incidence of unlawful carrying of a weapon
  • 1 incidence of a weapons report

Do Renee, Mallory and Elizabeth really think the biggest danger facing their peers is custard eliquid?
