Can Vaping Prevent Early Aging?

Posted 25th May 2021 by Toby Kilroy
Vaping has seen a sharp spike in popularity over the last few years, and for plenty of good reasons. People have smoked cigarettes for years – most while understanding the extreme health risks and the damage they could cause. But, quitting is easier said than done.

Vaping has provided a safer and healthier alternative to smoking. Some people use it as a transition to quitting smoking altogether, while others simply make the switch from traditional cigarettes to e-cigs. It has allowed people to maintain a positive mental health state without having to overthink the process of giving up cigarettes.

But, for all of its benefits, can vaping help to prevent early ageing? Are there other benefits you should consider, or are there drawbacks you should worry about when it comes to your skin?

What Happens When You Quit Smoking and Switch to Vaping?

Smoking can do a lot of damage to your body. One of the most noticeable issues, however, is how quickly it can speed up the ageing process. It can cause the following facial changes:

  • Grey skin tones
  • Deep creases
  • Wrinkles
  • Crows feet
  • Fine lines
  • Eye puffiness

Additionally, smoking can contribute to age spots, sagging skin, and even hair loss. Those are all factors that can make you look older than you actually are. Of course, it can cause internal issues as well, making you feel older, too!

So, what happens when you quit smoking and switch to vaping?

Pure Eliquids

Because vaping doesn’t contain all of the harmful chemicals that cigarettes have, it tends to be a better choice for those trying to get off traditional cigarettes.

But there is one thing you can’t prevent even if you switch to vaping: There will be more fine lines and wrinkles around your lips and cheeks due to inhalation, the muscles used, and the limited oxygen every time you inhale. But, without the chemicals and smoke blowing in your face from traditional cigarettes, the ageing process could be much slower when you use a vape instead.

The Benefits of Vaping vs. Cigarettes for Your Skin

Because vaping has become so popular, people have started to do it for a variety of reasons. CBD has even become more common in the vaping industry to help with things like anxiety, depression, and getting better sleep. If you go that route with vaping, you might be slowing down the ageing process without realizing it.

How?

Some of the long-term effects of anxiety include:

The Electronic Cigarette Company
  • Digestive issues
  • Heart conditions
  • Headaches
  • Breathing problems
  • Trouble sleeping

All of that extra stress caused by anxiety can certainly speed up the ageing process with constant worry and tension. When you’re stressed, a hormone called cortisol is released into your body. It increases the natural oil production in your skin, which can clog your pores and lead to breakouts and other skin conditions. It can also leave your skin looking dull and unhealthy.

When you vape with CBD to reduce anxiety, those symptoms may not be as prominent, so you can decrease your stress levels. That means less cortisol production and healthier-looking skin.

Additionally, vaping with CBD (or using it as a transition from cigarettes so you don’t have to quit cold turkey) can help you get more sleep at night. It can help you deal with chronic pain and the depression that sometimes comes with it, allowing you to get the rest your body needs. Poor sleep can also speed up the ageing process and make your skin look dull and lifeless. If you vape with CBD to combat that, you can maintain a more youthful glow.

More Research to Be Done

If you’re using vaping as an alternative to smoking, you’re already one step ahead of the game. Because smoking has been proven to speed up the appearance of ageing, finding a better alternative can slow that down.

But, as far as vaping preventing early ageing? There is still more research to be done. It’s important to understand that, despite its popularity, vaping is still a relatively new thing. Researchers are still uncovering benefits and drawbacks, and it will take time to get the full scope of how vaping really affects your mind and body.

Vaping “cigarettes” don’t contain tobacco and some of the other chemicals traditional cigarettes have. But, they often contain nicotine, which can narrow your small blood vessels and limit the natural flow of nutrients in your skin.

For some, that might contribute to the ageing process. It won’t be nearly as fast as smoking traditional cigarettes, so it could be a great alternative as you’re trying to quit tobacco products. But, keep it in mind if you’re trying to completely preserve the youthful glow of your skin while improving your mental and physical health.
