Thought you might like to see what we do to make sure our wire is the best it can be.
I make replacement felt pads for our respooler from sheet felt as the sheet stock we can get seems to be better and also much cheaper than the ones provided by the manufacturer. The first two pairs of felt pats along the wire path are really to control the wire and maintain a more even tension but they also pick up oil and dust from the wire as it passes through.
We had a batch of new ribbon ni200, 0.1mmx 1.0mm which was extremely oily so I made a final set of spring loaded pads in an attempt to remove the last bit of oil the other pads weren't quite catching. The 1x0.1 proved to be too oily even for these extra pads so it's not going up on the site but they do an excellent job of removing even more contaminants from our other wires.
Please note this is actually "clean" wire which has been acid washed as the final stage of production and what you see below is what's been removed from thousands of metres.
