Social media and me

Might be a minority view but I avoid social media because most of it is pure trivia and photos of personal shite and photos of people who really should never look into a camera.
I like forums mostly because I just get to read what people have to say on one subject and while there will always be a proportion of socialising on most forums (not all!) there is one main thing in common, on here it's vaping and that's what we have in common and very likely that may often be all we have in common.
On places like FB it seems like everyone is expected to have everything in common? Which may be true and I love the differences in people not the commonalities.
I also mistrust people doing business on generalist forums such as FB which is just a glorified BB because I think anyone with only a "social media" business presence is not really taking it seriously because where is the web site and where are all the business details so we can check you out to make sure you're not from China or Russia or a subsidiary of a tobacco company or TW etc.

This is not helping this topic. I think a blog on the web site would be better and carry on here as you already do plus lots of mailshots (postal & electronic) and perhaps more stickers and non-personal business cards that we can all leave lying around. Also, as already suggested, get on that SEO hat and get better known online.

Cheers guys, I really appreciate all the input :)

I really was very happy plodding along, allowing the organic growth but the change in law has forced the situation,

Wish us luck!

I would agree and disagree....to say I use FB is exactly that...it's a news feed from the BBC, Linux Mint, 3 vape specific groups which can/do get the odd dick head, my home town football team, a number of e-liquid vendors who use FB for advertising and to promote.
So I use FB as a tool, not as a selfie snapshot site, but to promote a business to wider media is going to get more attention than a website. A website has to designed and set up for the search engines to find it, having looked at the source yesterday it's just not getting that sort of search engine hit.
To grow your business you need to exploit every possible avenue of marketing....FB does that for nothing, so does Instagram and in some cases Twitter.
Cornish Liquids have launched a vape store....where did I see that first FB...why? because I set a like to their page and anything they post comes on my news feed. Ok, it may have come through on here, but sometimes there can be so much in the 'new post section' that I may have missed it.
Adding a blog would not attract any new interest....FB would but it's like any sort of marketing you have to get it out there to all and sundry who vape....including the dick heads.
I have the Spartan Juice Co still on my feed, never bought anything but there is always something coming through, Mole Juice is the same, in fact I rely on FB for Mole Juice info. Look at Dragon Rise he got a fair bit of bashing on here, he's disappeared but his FB feed still comes through and so does his marketing emails.
If you want a captive market then it's right here you cannot fault anything about PF.....but if you want to grow your business you're not going to do it via a website and forum.
PF's liquid is now becoming an evening vape use and I'll use the cheaper stuff throughout the day until I get my arse into gear and start making my own.
I have a list of things I want to progress and that is thanks to this forum, because up until a few months ago I knew nothing....but I shall keep gear down to what I need because the liquid to me matters the most and one day I'll find the right gear and wonder why I never gave up smoking earlier.

I need to employ an interweb specialist is what I have taken from this lol

WTF's an interweb....you're not a silver surfer and I don't mean the comic book one :D:D

The irony is that I'm a chartered engineer and have worked at the cutting edge of design in the nuclear and aerospace industries -

But I just hate the social element of the internet with a passion :D

Hmm.

Interweb: A sarcastic term for the internet. Often used in the context of parody regarding an inexperienced, unskilled, or incoherent user [of any age].

Silver surfer probably refers to a pensionable aged internet user. That would be baby boomers. They grew up with personal computers when you had to apply yourself to use them properly unlike today's younger users who expect everything to work and when computers fail (and they do) have no idea how to fix them.

To quote " despicable me "

Why, why are you so old?

I spent the best part of my life as a hotelier, and dealing with people face to face I have accepted social media, but I also hate the fact that some use it to hide behind. I've had computers since the very early days so they have become a tool to use. I've just come back from the wife's school, what should have been a quick 15 mins to restart a service on one of the servers turned into 90, because the word got around I was in school, teachers and their ta's have some sort of small problem they can't resolve.
At least with forums and social media I can set someone to ignore :) in the real world dealing with someone who was supposedly kept awake all night because of a dripping tap in the bathroom is another ball game :D

Facebook is a strange egg and for me I only use it as a tool to see what my friends and family are up to, wish people happy birthday and the likes and that's about it.

I have subscribed and liked a couple of vape related feeds and stuff but over the past year I've bought quite a bit of vape related gear and juice... Personally I've never bought anything from fb or I don't think fb has influenced me to purchace anything vape related.

I've watched hundreds of youtube reviews but my interest in watching them will of come from potv.

All my purchases are usually made from recommendations on this forum.

cheers
