is there a space at the end of your email address by any chance? It is something I noticed it do previously on mine. Not sure why though

no all ok now entered by hand...did not seem to like the autofill function for some reason...never had that before...now stop chatting and get my custard to me !!!! LOL

I think the autofill thing is an oddity on the checkout, for some reason when I have used it the email has a space entered at the end which throws up an invalid cross. It seems to work well most of the time and we get very little spam considering so perhaps it is built in to ensure visitors are completing correctly.
