What's new

I knew this covid would end in tears

Folks need to think these things through.

What about the bus queue maintaining a distance of 2m apart from people they then sit next to on the bus :thud:

Just got back from dr office. So tired of wearing masks....
The flu kills more people every year, and they never say wear a mask for it....

Unfortunately not so....:(

From https://coronavirusexplained.ukri.org/en/article/cad0002/

"The new coronavirus appears to have a fatality rate closer to the worldwide pandemic flu in 1918 that killed an estimated 1.0–1.5% of those infected, after accounting for milder undetected cases. Unusually, the 1918 virus caused a higher proportion of deaths among young adults. The 2009 ‘swine flu’ pandemic had a relatively low overall death rate of 0.01–0.08%, which is why strict control measures were not considered at that time.

The majority (around 80%) of people who become infected with the new coronavirus will only suffer from minor illness. But the fatality rate following infection is still high compared to other pandemic diseases, adding up to a large number of potential deaths across the world. More precise estimates of fatality rate in different age groups, and those with underlying health conditions, are critical to planning protection for those most vulnerable.!"

This whole thing is a complete joke.

Im a scouser and this is our time line in recent weeks.

1. Northwest is worst area
2. Pubs shut at 10 to curb spread
3. Week later northwest to go under tier 3 based on pubs (a week ffs)
4. Liverpool singled out for no apparant reason
5. Pubs not selling food shut, which is hardly any pubs it turns out
6. 3! days later the rest of the northwest joins us

Its bollocks and the government knows it, all lip service because they just don't want to do anything. The only difference between tier 2 and 3 is that pubs have to close if they don;t serve food. Pubs have been selling dinner tickets and putting a pot of curry or scouse on in the bag to get around the rules.

Either lock the region down for a couple of weeks or stop pissing about. A week between rule changes and then 3 days to determine other areas are as bad as Liverpool, makes zero sense and shows they are making it up as they go along, especially as they are ignoring scientists anyway.

Complete fucking joke

we have never had a FULL lockdown fucking jokers get the army on the streets and lock EVERY cunt down till after xmas ban all air travel if no one is out it cant spread all this shit about close the pub aint doing shit, all these rules are confusing as fuck as no one is paying attention and thinks they are immune as,for the track and trace its a fucking joke Boris aint got a fucking clue

No offence but if you are going to publish something that starts with:

"Current research suggests that the new coronavirus has a fatality rate among infected people that is 6–16 times higher than common flu."

BUT then says:

"However, this figure may change as we make more accurate measurements of the number of people who have been infected with the new coronavirus and the number that have died with COVID-19."

and it dated 25th March 2020 just as we went in lockdown
I'd say the data the report used is a little out of date

as I said somewhere else on this forum
the UK suffered far worse with Influenza & Pneumonia deaths prior to a vaccine programme of 14m pa in UK

the BBC quickly pulled a chart they first used, when saying 3 times more deadly than flu in the last 20 years

Alas the original chart the BBC used displayed a HIGHER rate of deaths from 1992 to 2000
for 8 years there was 60,000 deaths pa - which on a smaller population back then equates to 70,000 today

Also there was 63,000 deaths pa in a period 1975 to 1983 - another 8 year period

it was only after 2000 was a national flu vaccine programme introduced
and comparing todays COVID-19 (no vaccine) against influenza with the vaccine programme for last 20 years
is a little like comparing apples & oranges

of course the BBC pulled the original graph
and nobody talks of the great severe lockdowns 1975~1983 & 1992~2000 where more deaths occured
oh right there wasn't one, nor does anybody remember wearing masks back then

the original BBC graph...

quickly replaced by this 2020 only graph...

BBC replacement proven by google search...

So going back to ONS data to show mortality spike in 1992~2000

Screenshot from 2020-10-09 20-14-23.png

and in 1975~1983

Screenshot from 2020-10-09 20-14-23.png

and if you want Spanish Flu figure

Screenshot from 2020-10-09 20-14-34.png

the point of all this, the flu is quite bad - WITHOUT A VACCINE
and there was instances where there was quite high periods of motality
yet there was no widespread panic, hysteria & lockdowns with masks that I can remember at those periods

so data & reports can be skewed/presented in different ways to suit the narrative being pushed
(including my own post here)

Also, these illnesses / deaths are in addition to those from flu. So even if it's "no worse" than flu, we still want to knock it on the head.

And though it's a pain in the arse for most of us, there are some people who are suffering disproportionately from lockdown, such as those in care homes who haven't seen their family for months (many of whom have little life remaining), those who have experienced death, and those with terminal or severe illnesses who rely on the medical system for regular treatment.

the deniers are basically just trying to scrape together a pseudo scientific justification for going out for a pint, i feel.

I know someone who has given up their job to care for their mother at home. Because she was worried she'd never see her again.

Currently i am away in Gozo visiting my Ma, the rules here from Thursday will be, no booze in any food places. This is to deter the younger folks from mixing as most only want to drink not eat out.
£200 fine for not wearing a mask or £100 if you pay on the spot. Kids exempt are 3 years and under. Adults exempt while eating drinking or Smoking/vaping. But you must be 10 meters away from anyone eating or the place selling food and drink failure means the £200 fine plus the vendor gets a fine currently £3000 and closed down. But suspect it's going up to £10,000 plus closed down.
£10,000 fine for anyone out without a mask and tests positive for Covid, All the usual social distancing, even the churches have restrictions, instead of a Daily mass it's hourly so less folks a time allowed inside.
The good thing is, there are people who have mobile business's like a fruit and veg man, a fish seller. A beer seller etc. They are similar to the old Milkman or coal, pop deliveries. UK has allowed multi billion companies to dominate so we no longer get daily deliveries. Gozo is part of Malta but a seperate island, there is of today 44 people with Covid out of 30,000 people all of which are over 70 years old and i think since the begining only a hanful of deaths, some of those had been to Italy.
The Police and the Covid inspectors are around to enforce the rules and they seem to be working.
From December 1st all food places and bars will have to close, i guess thats for the XMas and New year weeks as folks tend to go out boozing more.
Are the UK rules working?. not as much as they are in Gozo. Plus the rules here are to put folks from Malta off visiting, it's a 15 min ferry ride over from Malta and at weekends there are a lot of folks with a place in Gozo who come across. The sunday afternoon and evening are when the queues build up for the ferry but this week a lot less came over.
