Been following this, although I'm not a tennis fan as such. Absolutely incredible achievement. Believe it is the first time a qualifier has won a major.

Unbelievable achievement at such a young age 10 games in 3 weeks and didn't drop a set or whatever its called in tennis fantastic

Watched the final last night , she was fantastic. Going to earn millions off the back of that . Let's hope she copes with the pressure it will now bring and that its the first of many titles.

Her singing along with the crowd was adorable. She's definitely got the personality to be a huge star. Good luck to her.

Congrats to Emma, worked hard to qualify & to go on to win it
Her small injury, still would have been a distraction, no doubt stinging a little
(slight objection from Leylah, reckon Emma would have been more gracious
if the situation was reversed with Leylah sustaining a slight injury)

Somehow she remain composed to come back from Laylah's Advantage,
to deuce, then Advantage Emma, to finally ACE it & claim victory - bless her

Looked to be a closer match than the score line shows
Each game was closely fought and Lelyah was 2-1 up in second set
looking to go to full 3 set match...
Then Emma fought back from losing 2-1 to lead 5-2
(req only one game from next 3 games)
Leylah would have needed to win most of the next 5 games in a row
or at least 3 in a row to force tiebreaks of two clear games to take the 2nd set
(if it went to 5-5, then it would have to end 7-5, 8-6, 9-7 etc... 2 game lead for set)

So Leylah was facing a rather steep climb to claim the 2nd set & remain in the game,
so it was almost a likely conclusion that Emma would take the set (though nothing is certain)
But Emma was nigh on there, when she sustained her injury, which still bled as it was dressed

Slightly sad Leylah seemed annoyed, but perhaps she was not aware it was a little more than a tiny scratch
Though that must have still stung a bit for Emma to be aware of, plus the bandage/plaster most certainly
have been a tiny distraction at the very least, even for an experienced athlete

Crowd certainly favoured Leylah, Emma had no real support from close friends/family
except for her team & some Brits, she certainly had some grit in her to power through & lift the trophy

Both ladies, will inspire many younger players, despite scoreline it was quite close
though Emma kept edging the most games again & again to gain her first major title

Thoroughly enjoyable game - about the best thing I've seen on Ch4 in yonks
Bravo ladies & well done Emma once again
