American Virus Stats

They are bloody quick. The local thieves use them round here with great success.
Often see them when walking the dog's at night. Literally scare the crap out of you they're so quiet.
New vocation then!

Is anyone else watching the figures in the USA with a feeling of impending doom? :(

What to expect when the 'man' in charge thought Covid was going to be 'a little flue'?

Americans are also notoriously hard to tell what to do, on account of that 'exceptional rugged individualism'?

Florida keeps breaking records it never wanted to break.

On Sunday, the state reported more than 15,000 new coronavirus cases, shattering its previous record of 11,336 set on Thursday.

Wow. Florida just reported 15,000 new cases today, a record. Testing is way up. pic.twitter.com/Kt45e6hfCW

If Florida were a country, only the United States, Brazil, and India would have recorded more new infections over that same span, Reuters reports. Per Reuters, no European country recorded a daily number that high during the height of the pandemic there, while Florida also broke New York state's previous record of 12,847 new cases on April 10 when it was the epicenter of the outbreak in the United States.

One slight silver lining is that the positivity rate dropped slightly in Florida thanks to an increase in testing even though the number of positive results increased.

Florida is so awesome! Lol
The governor still refuses to mandate masks. Wouldnt want that wierd tan line on your face after a day at the beach

I'm finding the US figures a touch confusing, we have all seen the dangerous gatherings over the past couple of months so it's no surprise the cases have been rising but the fatality rate seems to be much lower than you would have expected after the early New York numbers, yes they are sadly high but either the numbers are being massaged (November election) or there's some other factors, which could be:
  • We now understand how to treat early cases better (drugs and not too hasty ventilation).
  • Could the virus be changing to a less aggressive strain?
  • Trump is just awesome and fucking nailed it.
  • Some Americans have a unique dumb gene which the virus doesn't want to attack.
  • Or as Trump says, more testing = more cases highlighting asymptomatic infections.
Time will tell I guess, hopefully the fatalities will start to decline sooner than later.
