Haven't used it for a while but I used to mix it either on it's own (tastes like rosy apple sweets) or mixed with a bit of caramel for a toffee apple flavour.

Might give it a go with some blackcurrant maybe

Yep. That should work. The blackcurrant is strong so I would use more apple in the ratio to balance it out.

As for love heart sweets, I find any sweetie flavors are just too sweet/sickly for me.
