This is a personal review of a product I either bought or received free of charge. The opinions expressed here represent my own and not those of this website, planetofthevapes.co.uk

Ok,

After seeing a post by Mawsley in respect to these being on sale at Chinabuye, it did prick my curiosity. If we were ever to have a team of clone specialists, he would head that team.

Now after having and still encountering some horrific experiences with another supplier in the same region, my reluctance to order lasted quite a few days, I finally gave in and ended up ordering on 3rd November, chose tracked service, and paid a total of £22.55 for the Kayfun 3.1 clone.

I received this on my doormat on 14th November 2013. so all the BS about parcels being held up etc....etc....blah....blah....blah, is exactly that! Anyway, I digress, this isnt about service, but about the product.

First thing I noticed when unpacking it, is that it is a 'polished' material and there is a lot of spares including a little screwdriver and some premade wicks. Rule Number 1, dispose of these wicks :)

Now this is where, I encountered the first issue, this clone has a real big identity crisis, it appears on the surface to be a KF3.1 clone, with the airhole, and what looks like a fill hole, - All good, then on the base is a screw like a KFL?! So this is the clone equivalent of Jaffa Cakes,
which is ironic really, has I have been having a intense debate with another member on here as to their validity as a cake instead of a biscuit. Sorry....I am digressing again :(

So to me in all tense and purpose this is a KFL+ clone.

The next thing that becomes apparent on disassembling, is some of the threads are silky smooth, and others are terrible, so I ultrasonically cleaned it, and found this did not solve the problem. Now rule No.2 is not to use stuff like contralube on threading that could possibly come into contact with liquid. After applying the contralube and wiping away the excess (Please I do not recommend this is done) The problem was solved.

I then carried on with my rebellious streak, and threw rule one out of the window, and used the wick that was already in place. I filled with liquid, let it settle and vaped. 1.9ohm resistance and worked well on a VW device. Started to get wicking issues, and flavour was a little muted. Changed the wick for a thicker one, reduced the resistance and it improved it no end :)

However......I am still not getting the taste I do with a authentic KFL, but that might be down to me, and not the unit. I have been running this for 2 days now, and so far, I have had no leaks, that I was really surprised about if I am honest, and the only downside is no clear tank piece, but it is interchangeable with the authentic product. I still have the nagging doubt in the back of my mind about leaking and the build quality is nowhere near the same as the original, so I dont know how long it will last. I will update this thread if anything happens.

Overall, they are different, and preference has to go to the KFL, BUT.......at 3 times the price this is to be expected, and 'bang for buck' the clone does win hands down at present. This is definately a vaping on a budget must have. :)

Please note that I have not and would never post this for any reward, and have not done so through the suppliers website :)

the "fill hole" next to the air hole is a air flow control screw;)
it's more a Russian 91% clone if anything

can you elaborate more on the build quality being nowhere near the original. aside from some dodgy threads that is, is the material of a different material/ thinner metal / poorer finish? are the connecting pins the same material ? . i only ask as if its just down to spit and polish finish im trying to ascertain what would casue it to be not as good a vape as to the original before i go spend any shimoleons on it

They feel the same weight, but I think the material is thinner, and the connector pins look the same material but very slightly smaller in diameter. The KFL is a matt finish and the clone is semi polished. Also as would be expected, the first photo is as it was taken out the box, and it is quite scratched.

I have stated I expect that its me, and not the unit, but I dont get the same intense flavour, but that could be partly psychological, partly my piss poor coiling skills. :)

For the price....I would not attempt to put anyone off :)

Give it a real quick brush and it will look spot on no scratches :) little bit of toothpaste on threads and screw unscrew a couple of times and a good soapy bath and it will probably be great :)

If you would like to sell it give me a PM :D

tubby engineer nailed it on that thread for me andy....was exactly how i understood the argument :)

Elux
Is it just light scratches or is there dings on the edges etc?

Yes it is fella, just scatches, a couple are quite deep :)

The threading was quite burred on the bottom threads and the chimney, but I have sorted those out.
