I've seen heated discussions on forums about what's 'appropriate' with regard to the use of emojis and the withdrawal of some on the grounds they are being used in an 'inappropriate' way. Reminds me of the old saying, 'if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen'.

I agree. Sometimes a like isn't quite appropriate, but you want to give non-verbal feedback.
