18/3/22 Covid rates rise again. 1 in 20 now has covid in the uk, thats 3.3 million new cases.

On the day that all restrictions are lifted for tests on incoming flights from anywhere in the world.

The government will remove the remaining restrictions on international travel for all passengers ahead of the Easter holidays, the Transport Secretary announced today (14 March 2022).

As one of the first major economies to remove all its remaining COVID-19 travel restrictions, this is a landmark moment for passengers and the travel and aviation sector.

From 4am Friday 18 March, all COVID-19 travel restrictions will be lifted, including the passenger locator form (PLF) for arrivals into UK, as well as all tests for passengers who do not qualify as vaccinated. This change, therefore, removes the need for unvaccinated passengers to take a pre-departure test and a day 2 post arrival test.

This step reflects the decisions taken by the government, as set out in the Living with COVID plan, and the success of the UK’s vaccine and booster rollout, with 86% of the population having received a second dose and 67% of the population with a booster or third dose.

Is there any reason to believe that my wife's son visiting from the north east, down via train, tubes, buses etc (320 miles) is a risk to her. She doesn't want him to visit (here) indoors, and wants to meet him outside somewhere, he's not happy about that. There isnt much covid around atm, and that Monkeypox thing is an irrelevance ??

Hi Andi
I have no idea mate. ive heard there was still 300 deaths this week put down as covid.
i guess what you could do is make him wear a mask and do a lateral flow test which takes 30 mins to make sure hes not got the lergy. but then if hes been on busses and trains on a long journey then if hes picked it up then im guessing it wont show a reading for 3-5 days.
I can totally understand why the wife feels like that and her son should understand that shes still at risk and be a bit more understanding about her wishes.

im in the same boat. ive not socialised at all in last 2 years but am meant to be going to a restaurant meal on saturday and of the 12 people that will be there 6 of them have had covid. its not really them im worried about but the packed restaurant with loads of other people.
was told i should have had my 5th covid jab by now but then no one is doing them anymore as far as i know.

edit
just checked, 91,391 new cases in england in last week.

Nice one, thanks for the response :)

I have read a fair bit here. And can't help but feel you guys are in, in ways, another world. Im not in any way trying to downplay covid, no way, but the amount of boosters im reading is nothing like here. We too have had exposed covid fatalities as other reasons. Sorry very much to hear people have died there in the UK from it.
I am trying to find words that are not condescending, or seem rude, im not even sure that explains my response.
But here has been utter bs with actual covid deaths.
It may be our country and climate, so forgive me if it sounds wrong. But many many are asking for enquiries here into our response to it all and actual fatalities from it.
We here were and are the most locked down place in the World.
This was it.
We in all of our state, the size of England, were fully locked down. Even though all 99.9999% of cases were in just Melbourne. The entire state was locked down. Us in the bush could not travel out of our homes further than 5 kilometres.
Police were driving through bush tracks, dirt rubbish roads checking on and fining people. We went for a walk and the police came and rego checked our car, 200 km from the nearest covid case! And if we had been just 100 metres out of the 5km zone would have been fined! People were bashed by police, pepper sprayed in their eyes, I saw an old 70 yr old lady protest get thrown to the ground like a rag doll and as she lay there in pain pepper sprayed by a police officer. People bashed and head stomped by police, gang bashed by police all at the orders from our Govt. In our town, 100% true, 8 people dead from vaxes, zero from covid. That's my last town of 7000.
Where I am no covid fatalities. Since covid.
My best mate, his sister in-law. Went to hospital for a minor issue. They refused her unless she got vaxxed. She relented and got it. My mate and his wife the next day got a call. "Sorry ....... Died from Covid!" Utter bs, she was fine, had no covid.
They are livid!
Im not denying covid exists. But here in OZ its been an utter disgrace.
Im sorry, I really am for those there that it claimed. But here it has been a very very different story.

wow, thats fekkin crazy.

latest result for past week in uk. its way down on when it was really bad but still 398 in 7 days is bad enough.

Number 5 at 3:20pm, at this rate they'll never make a canoe out of me....

The rules may be relaxing but I don't believe the Virus will be its still killing people.

Hard to know what's going on as people arent testing nearly as much. Long covid is rampant and real, which my covid twin @DeeDee aka (Pod Queen) might attest to. But the government etc... :11:

Dear Prime Minister

Open Letter to Boris Johnson

Thank you for your email dated 1st June 2022.

On the 1st of April, twelve children living with Long Covid travelled to No. 10 to deliver an account of their experiences. Each child represented 10,000 young people in this country who have been seriously impacted by the condition, and they had come from every corner of the UK with letters describing the toll this illness has taken on their lives. The visit was planned in coordination with staff at Downing Street, and the children were assured that their letters would be received by you personally.

Several of these children have been disabled by a ‘mild’ SARS-CoV-2 infection, to the extent that they must now use wheelchairs, but for everyone involved, the visit to Downing Street required significant effort. Their journey was fuelled by hearts full of hope and resolve for a brighter future. Their accompanying parents and siblings have become carers whilst these children now observe life rather than participate.

Our charity supports all children who suffer ongoing harm from SARS-CoV-2 infection and their carers, as detailed in our new Support Guide which outlines the currently proposed mechanisms for Long Covid, the differences between COVID-19 and flu, and the challenges and impacts faced by those who we support. This Support Guide was also hand-delivered to your offices.

Post-exertional symptom exacerbation, or PESE, is common in those living with Long Covid. This means that activity can cause a worsening of symptoms. Many of these children spent days recovering from the physical efforts required to make that journey yet chose to participate because it gave them hope. The suffering of children with Long Covid has been routinely ignored, and they were eager to bring their personal stories to your attention in the belief that their voices would make a difference.

We were therefore deeply shocked and upset by the response to their letters from the Department of Health and Social Care, writing on your behalf. Instead of any recognition of the children’s experiences, or the work of our charity led by volunteers, we received what appeared to be a standard letter on the impact of Covid-19 on children’s mental health.

Youth mental health is a serious issue, and we are glad that the government is taking steps to address it. However, it is entirely unrelated to the mechanisms of Long Covid. Long Covid symptoms are the result of a pathophysiological disease process triggered by SARS-CoV-2 infection. It can cause significant and measurable damage to the body, including the lungs, muscles, and cardiovascular system. Tens of thousands of previously healthy children are now living with symptoms that profoundly impact their quality of life, and 26,000 of them have experienced symptoms for more than a year. It is insulting in the extreme that accounts of this illness have been met with a description of improved access to psychological therapies, helplines, and treatment for eating disorders.

The content of the DHSC’s letter suggests that the children’s messages were not read and that the government believes Long Covid is primarily a question of mental health. This apparent lack of awareness of the medical facts is profoundly troubling and highlights the degree to which this illness has been misunderstood, and why it was necessary for us to hand-deliver our Support Guide and the children’s letters to Downing Street.

We remain committed to improving the health and learning outcomes of children and young people and trust that this letter - and the letters delivered on the 1st of April - will receive an appropriate reply. We would also welcome the opportunity to meet you and your advisors in person and to introduce you to the medical and academic experts who support Long Covid Kids.

On behalf of the ten thousand children, parents and carers that we represent,

Yours sincerely

Sammie McFarland CEO and Founder
