Then you get stuff like this in the Guardian, which is supposedly more reliable than The Scum. Guess who the expert is. /s

"Lung disease from vaping has hit Britain, says expert"

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2019/sep/29/vaping-lung-disease-has-hit-britain

I took an interest in this story, because it was in the BMJ which *seems* to give it *some* level of credibility. But then I found this quote from her on Health.com:

" Yes, I vaped, but I didn’t vape daily. Or even close to daily."

But I don't see this key fact mentioned anywhere else.

Meanwhile @MrDJ gets through 25ml every 24 hours* and is fine.

*I remember seeing this in a thread somewhere and raising my eyebrows in respect

One of the biggest things that sticks out is they admit THC in most cases
BUT then say but many have not......

So what are the figures/percentages - ergh we don't know

Exactly. It IS an important story. But investigation is needed. And anything useful that could come out of it is swept away by a torrent of sensationalist bullshit.

I've submitted an official complaint about that piece on the basis that it is factually incorrect. Glycerol is not a lipid and can therefore not cause lipoid pneumonia. It is GCSE-level chemistry. That Glantz and the doctors do not know this is beyond ridiculous...although I suspect Glantz does know as it has been pointed out to him on multiple occasions.

This is a throwback to a case in 2014 in Birmingham that was attributed to vaping, I suspect it is the same case but I can not access the full report.

It's bullshit.

actually let me correct you there @MHL :)
my average daily intake is more like 35-45ml a day especially with higher ohm coils.
February next year will be 5 years for me after a 37 year habit of 20-30 cigs a day. i started smoking when i was 11 on capsten full strength where i used to buy singles and one swan match for 2p. when i started work at 15 i bought my first full packet of cigs and that continued every single day.
i lost my old man to cancer and 4 of his sisters all went the same way but it still didnt stop me smoking. i tried many times with all the usual patch, gum big pharma stuff but none worked.
i used to have the heavy smokers cough bringing up shite every morning and on average 3-5 colds a year which always turned to a chest infection and would last for 3-4 weeks.
i then found vaping.
since stopping smoking for 4.5 years i think i have had 3 colds which lasted 2-4 days. none have affected my chest. lemsips cleared it up.
what is worse for me is i have no immune system due to medication for my very rare arthritis (quoted one of only 3 in the world with every form of it) so i am at much higher risk than a normal fit smoker and risk pneumonia every time i get a cold.
with my 6 weekly infusion drip that i have to have which kills my imune system i have to have regular chest xrays. all have been totally clear since 2015, hmm i wonder why.

Jesus that is quite a story! (And quite a lot of juice to boot, but that now takes secondary place in my respectful eyebrow raising)

After that experience these kind of stories in the press must make your blood boil. FWIW it sounds like you're making the best out of a tough hand, and yet you still manage to be really helpful around here, not to mention very entertaining. I wouldn't handle it so well I think.

thanks mate.
they certainly do make me so angry. and watching these twats in america blaming vaping as a whole boils my piss.
i went through a bad patch where i was ready to give up but i thought no, there are much worse off than me out their and then i decided im not going to let this disease beat me. not been easy but im still working in a xray department fr 39 years next week and the stress of that doesnt help but i keep going.
sadly had to grow to live with my condition.
woke up one day with and achy ankle when i was 21. within 9 months i could not walk unaided and was supplied a wheelchair and all the hand rails around the house. forgot to mention i also lost my sight in one eye 2 years after it all started and they had no idea what to do with me. my condition is in quite a few medical journals and it was thanks to me that since 1987 when i lost my sight they have now linked it to a rare form of arthritis and now eye check all new patients with similar symptoms.
shit happens but carry on :)

Mucho respect to you sir. Sadly the MSM aren't interested in publishing stories like yours, the truth doesn't appeal to their pay masters :12:

Yeah that is definitely a tough hand. Some understatement. I'm really sorry to hear that mate. That must have been some time ago if you have been working xrays for 40 years. How are things now? Not meaning to intrude, but you seem quite open about it so hopefully I'm not out of turn.

off topic alert

long story short
started overnight in 1985 and fit as a fiddle before then.
couldnt walk within 9 months
massive amount of steroids pumped into me. 60mg a day for over a year. no eye checks done.
caused a cataract in one eye only but still not checked.
1987 went to gp who said go to eye hosp casualty immediately. was in casualty for over 7 hours. introduced to around 20 different specialists (i now know they were called from various hospitals around the country just to see me).
sent home and by the time we got home there had been a call to immediately go to queens square nuro hosp and was stuck there for over a week.
as a cataract had formed they could not see the back of the eye so decided to operate within a week.
while i was under they decided to do a lensectomy which is remove my retina and replace it with a magnified one. didnt do any good and i was officially classed as partially blind as the arthritis had attacked my retinal nerve and killed it.
since then any form of arthritis diagnosed was followed up by eye checks.
move forward to 2000
lost dad to cancer. a few months later was offered a new groundbreaking TNF infusion drug that kills your immune system as it is that that is attacking my body. i refused as the consent form said risk of ms, cancer, death. fook that im not signing that.
a year later i begged the doc to get me funded for it.
had my first infusion in 2001. walked in on crutches and walked out without them.
move forward to 2016 the license for the drug is now out to tender and any fekker can make it. was forced onto the new drug which is much cheaper and now made by india or poland and ive gone down hill ever since.
in two days time i see my consultant to argue my case as the CCG are refusing to fund me being put back on the original drug as they say even though its called similar it still does the same thing.
time for a fight me thinks.
