More bad publicity....

Seriously, this is getting tiring. One of the causes of BO is diacetyl which is used in huge concentrations in popcorn factories. People in the factories contracted the rare disease BO from the diacetyl. So it acquired the coloquial name popcorn lung. There are other things that cause BO. They also are causes of popcorn lung, because it’s the SAME THING. As far as the other causes, they’ll probably not use the phrase popcorn lung because it wouldn’t make sense since these people didn’t catch it from working in a popcorn factory.

In Scotland some people call influenza the lurgy. That doesn’t mean it’s any different. Similarly some people call chlamydia the clap. BSE is also known as mad cow disease.

Isnt this pretty much what i said in post 37?

Explaining that popcorn lung has been around for years before vaping or even before the first recognised case identified in its name sake factory is not easy.
Popcorn lung is simply the name given to the case of bronchiolitis obliterans identified to have been directly caused Diacetyl exposure during the manufacturing of popcorn.
Smoking causes a multitude of pulmonary diseases but none of them will be called popcorn lung as cigarettes dont contain popcorn.
The smoking related equivalent to popcorn lung will be diagnosed as bronchiolitis or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (copd).

Hopefully the below will explain better than i can.

"Fixed airway obstruction, including BO disease, is a subset of conditions under the general category of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or COPD"

"Table 1. Generally accepted diagnostic criteria for bronchiolitis obliterans disease.

1.
Pulmonary function tests show clinically important fixed obstructive deficits indicating small airways disease without appreciable impacts on total lung volume and gas exchange measurements.

2.
The obstructive changes are resilient to treatment by corticosteroids or bronchodilators.

3.
The patient⿿s lungs show a mosaic pattern of attenuation on high resolution computed tomography (HRCT) scans indicating air trapping,

The diagnostic criteria used for BO disease overlap with the manifestations of other lung disorders having variable etiologies. For example, mosaic lung attenuation has also been observed in asthma and emphysema [52,92]. There are also similarities with clinical presentation and pulmonary function testing between BO disease and other obstructive lung diseases [52]. In addition to a detailed medical and exposure history, a lung biopsy is often essential to distinguish BO disease from various other diseases potentially affecting the bronchioles [73].

Laohaburanakit and colleagues [52] noted that:

⿿In the case of BO that is not related to transplantation, the diagnosis is much more challenging and requires a high index of suspicion. The clinical presentation, as well as pulmonary function testing characteristics of BO, are non-specific and resemble other obstructive diseases such as asthma and COPD [chronic bronchitis and emphysema]. [⿯] Surgical lung biopsy, either by open lung biopsy or video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) is usually required when BO occurs outside of transplantation and the diagnosis cannot be made by transbronchial biopsy.⿿

A friend wanted to warn me against vaping so he sent me Health Focus March 2018 E-cigarettes without reading it.
"EC use releases negligible levels of nicotine into ambient air with no identified health risks to bystanders."
"using EC is around 95% safer than smoking"
the biggest risk is cheap batteries catching on fire.

As if vaping hasn't gotten enough bad publicity lately, the show Family Guy on Fox in the U.S. aired an episode Sunday night, 10/7/2018, titled "Dead Dog Walking," where they address vaping in what I would describe as a negative way.
The subplot has infant Stewie discover vaping at a high school party. A kid who's vaping with a group of other teenagers tells Stewie, "Smoking is for losers; vaping is for douchebags."
Later, Stewie introduces his older brother Chris to vaping. Chris infers that because what Stewie gives him is a raspberry flavor, it must be for kids.
Stewie and Chris joke later that when a person doesn't vape for three hours, they go through nicotine withdrawal & begin shaking.
Here are some shots from my TV showing the rough order of some of the subplot:

Later, when their mother Lois realizes Stewie is vaping, she takes his vape pen away. Stewie is "jonesing" so badly that he actually fights Chris for Chris's pen:

Near the end of the episode, Chris catches Lois in their yard smoking a cigarette. Lois says vaping is just as bad for you as smoking & calls Chris a douchebag for vaping. She takes a picture of him & posts it on social media describing him as such.

I just thought some of you might want to know this is out there. A lot of people will likely see this, & because of the timing with the FDA investigation, I believe it has the potential to do even more harm to the vaping industry.
I like Family Guy--I only saw this episode because I DVR the show--& I realize they say they make fun of everyone equally. But material like this is unfortunate to see for those of us who don't want to see a flavor ban, or any other kind of ban.

What are your thoughts?

Aye, I would agree @DjDoc but at the same time something like this alongside loads of other negative propaganda can reinforce it, for those who know nothing of vaping.
