Coil Porn beginner

Hello all,

I want to start building more complex builds.
What kind of wire should I buy? And how much from each?
I know I should get some NiChrome, some Kanthal ribbon (which one),...

I have Kanthal A1 26 and 30G, NiChrome 26G, NI200 26G and SS316 26G already.

Best coil to try out is the Clapton Coil buddy. 26G Kanthal, and 32G Kanthal to start with, then you can maybe go for a higher gauge outer wire once you've got some practice in. Plenty of tutorials out there, you can do it by hand, but it takes a lot of patience so a drill is recommended. Claptons give off a lot more depth to the vape, Fused Claptons are the way to go once you've got the single strand clapton down!

I know which coils to start with. I already tried the fused clapton with the wires I have. Just practicing though.
The question really is: I want to make an online order for wires and I want not to have to much shipping charges. A lot of shops give free shipping as from a certain amount of € or £. So the goal is to buy wires I know I will use later.
I know that I can go to Instagram/youtube/here and go to every single build and check what was used.
I am just wondering if someone already did it or some coil guru can help.

Assuming you're not building for temp control I'd get..

24,26,28,32,34,36awg kanthal
34,36awg Nichrome.
1X0.5mm ribbon (kanthal and nichrome)

That will allow you to make plain/armoured/fused/stapled/framed/alien claptons as well as twisted and tiger wire.

The higher gauges are for outer wrapping of claptons. You might want to try nichrome instead of kanthal, I find it easier to use.

If you want to get some real coil porn on the go, you've got to go with Nichrome n80. Dry burn it and watch the colours change. Check out Instagram and search #coilporn there's all sorts of crazy builds, the description should have the wires used.

I've attached a few of my favourites below, all the blue ones are made from n80

So your real question is what wire to buy and where from.

24 through to 30g is what i use for cores and 32 through to 38g is what i use for outers.
Ribbon i stick to 0.4/0.1.

Verh rarely use NiCr as i don't like the vape. I can taste it. If someone wants me to build NiCr for them, i tend to mix and match for them.

Get your wire from @stealthvape, the postage for rebuildable materials is only 2quid and you get 50% extra free on your spools. Postage is a moot point really.

How much do you buy? I just buy the biggest available spool of each. It'll get used at some point.

When i started out, 24, 26 and 32 and with that you can build all sorts.
