The Scottish Sun: Shocking scan reveals first case of vaping-related lung disease in UK

The patient had previously been a smoker and had often used cannabis and admitted to occasional binge drinking.

They added: “His radiology highlighted a degree of pre-existing structural lung disease, in-keeping with his history of cannabis and cigarette exposure.

It's just misleading and inaccurate reporting.

I wouldn't encourage sharing it, or clicking on it. I already feel dirty for doing so, don't become part of the problem.

Not wishing the fellow any harm but, 20+ yrs smoking including cannabis use & binge drinking is not a healthy lifestyle. He may have been vaping THC products laced with Vitamin E Acetate. So while vaping was the delivery method, the contents of the juice should be the point of investigation.

Just seen this.. more junk science?

Junk reporting and junk science. He had pre existing conditions, was an ex smoker, doesn't say how long for and how many a day. Mentions vitamin and menthol and mint products, so what? If the inference is that the juice contain vitamin E acetate where is the analysis of the juice, was it retail juice, what was the brand, was it homemade, did he buy it via facebook etc?

He had only quit fags six weeks ago, maybe was probably already feeling unwell, and for some time, so was trying vaping.

Oh, here we are, this must be it:

From which Candida albicans is mentioned, that can lead to:

Candida
pneumonia
is a rare infection of the lungs, with the majority of cases occurring secondary to hematological dissemination of Candida organisms from a distant site, usually the gastrointestinal tract or skin.

To be honest, there are risks in everything, we choose how we approach those risks and whether we increase them or help to mitigate against them.
The majority of cases of vape related lung issues so far, do seem to follow on from some sort of use of Illegal Cannabis Vape devices, or vaping now banned flavour additives like Diacetyl, acetoine, etc..
We are all going to go sooner or later, we can slow that process or help to increase it, by our choices.
My condolences to this guy and his family, whatever the reason for his demise.

With that patient profile, everything may happened.
Im not an obstinate vape defender because as @gouldenvape well said, there are risks on everything. Who knows.

But the point here is: that guy, what was he vaping? with what? can doctors fully trust what he say?
